Written by Paul Robert Coyle

Velasca has eaten the Ambrosia, becoming a god. Desperate for help, Xena and Gabrielle turn to an old enemy for help: Callisto.

Tropes

  • Armor-Piercing Question:
Callisto: When I sliced open your husband, how long did it take him to die? [visibly upset, Gabrielle walks away]
  • Call-Back: Trapped in the Labyrinth of the Gods, Callisto discusses how she wound up immortal and stuck there during her crossover appearance on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
  • Cooperation Gambit: Both Callisto and Xena have this in mind. Callisto wants the Ambrosia to become a god herself and complete her revenge on Xena while Xena is banking on Callisto and Velasca to tire themselves out in order to trap them forever.
  • Enemy Mine: Xena attempts this with Callisto with little success
    • Villain Teamup: Callisto in turns tries to team up with Velasca. Xena manages to break that up by implying the former trope.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Cornered, Gabrielle admits she doesn't want to die, but she stays in place.
  • Immortality Immorality: Velasca upon becoming a god. Callisto counts as well.
  • Lava Pit: How Xena traps Velasca and Callisto in the end.
  • Motive Rant: After capturing a rat, Callisto goes on at length about how Xena's not the only hero she wants to settle up with someday.
Callisto: Relax, my furry, little friend. No, you're not dinner. That's the boring part about immortality; you're never hungry. No, you're definitely not food. You're my little Hercules! Hercules trapped me in this little resort, and I owe him a lot. And I'm planning on paying him back for his kindness. Soon, soon. So, run away like a good little Hercules. Run away. Run away. [throws a knife at the rat] Very soon.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: After finally catching up to Gabrielle, Velasca remarks the power of a god makes killing her too easy and thus not as satisfying. She then takes out a dagger to kill her the old fashioned way.
  • Not Quite Dead: A bloody and battered Velasca crashes the ceremony, much to everyone's surprise.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Velasca trashes a temple belong to Artemis.
Velasca: Artemis, you fake! Where were you when our nation died?! Where were you when the many Amazon tribes were scattered and destroyed?! Where were you when the word "Amazon" became a joke told by old men in taverns?! I was once your subject. Now, I'm your equal and your enemy!
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Velasca is out to kill Gabrielle, though she remarks she also has "a special place in her heart" for Ephiny. Xena suspects she'll eventually go after the neighboring Centaurs, as well.
  • Shock and Awe: Velasca learns to do this upon reaching godhood. Callisto does so too when she does the same.
  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Justified. Gabrielle suggests getting Hercules for help rather than freeing Callisto, but Xena remarks they just don't have the time to go looking for him.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Callisto barely listens to whatever Xena tells her and almost openly implies she will betray the two after this. Meanwhile, Gabrielle has a grudge with Callisto for killing her husband.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Gabrielle manages to do this with her staff.
  • Took a Level in Badass: "Ambrosia, a gift from the gods... to make a god!"
  • Tornado Move: Velasca uses one in an attempt to suck Gabrielle towards her.
