Recap / X-Men S3 E10 "Longshot"

Go To

  • Actually a Good Idea: Spiral talks back to Mojo for not trying to recapture Longshot himself, which leads to her almost getting drained. Major Domo convinces Mojo this idea has merit, especially since the X-Men live on Earth.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Longshot, thanks to Mojo wiping his mind.
  • Bad Boss: As Mojo bemoans Longshot escaping, Spiral insultingly asks why he doesn't just go get him himself then. Mojo grabs her and starts draining her for talking back. He's only stopped by Major Domo interjecting.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Jubilee grouses about how she's 15, yet still treated like a little kid.
  • Berserk Button: When Jubilee tries to keep the villains away from Longshot, Spiral just brushes her off as a little girl. An enraged Jubilee blasts her for that. She later expresses frustration over Wolverine treating her like a child.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Mojo is content to drain Spiral and leave her for dead for talking back to him, but Major Domo points out her ability to open portals makes her invaluable at the moment. Mojo begrudgingly restores Spiral.
  • Damsel in Distress: The first step of Mojo's invasion plan is to kidnap Jubilee.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Longshot, it it wasn't obvious from the title, but also Jubilee.
  • Deadpan Snarker: After Jubilee is saved and the villains are sent packing.
Longshot: Have I earned that trust yet?
    Wolverine: You're close.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Longshot wasn't kidding when he said Mojo smells. Plants die around him.
  • Glad I Thought of It: When Major Domo explains how Spiral's suggestion that he lead the effort to recapture Longshot would be good for ratings (especially with the X-Men certain to intervene), Mojo says he just had a brilliant idea to personally recapture Longshot and fight the X-Men.
  • Hero Stole My Bike: Wolverine and Longshot decide to hijack one of the hoverbikes used by Mojo's goons. With zero prep time.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After the heroes arrive, Spiral questions why they have to bother with Jubilee anymore. Mojo says a Damsel in Distress provides the heroes with the motivation that will gin up the drama and the ratings.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Mojo says the X-Men are a proven ratings hit.
  • Lighter and Softer: The Warwolves of the comics tend to impersonate people by skinning them. Here, they're just gooey minions.
  • Only Sane Man: When Xavier inquires who Longshot is, both Wolverine and Jubilee try to answer at the same time. Xavier opts to have Beast explain it instead to get a straight answer.
  • Precocious Crush: Jubilee falls pretty hard for Longshot.
  • Shout-Out: Mojo says "That's all, folks!" when he pretends to escape
  • Take That!: The first sign of Mojo's Jurassic Park being a bootleg is the purple T-Rex.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Last time, Longshot only sabotaged Mojo's plan because the X-Men were threatening his top spot in the ratings. Since then, he's become the leader of a resistance movement against Mojo.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: It may be the first time Mojo literally gets off his ass, not only leaving his studio but paying a visit to Earth.
  • We Will Meet Again: Before leaving, Spiral tells Wolverine she's coming back for a rematch one day. She never does.
  • Woman Scorned: "Mojovision" had Longshot and Spiral walking off together, but here she's back to being Mojo's head minion and despises Longshot. He only explains that "we used to date".
  • The Worf Effect: Mojo hits Rogue with a stun ray first, though leaving Wolverine and Beast doesn't improve his chances much.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Longshot runs off with Jubilee, Spiral tells the mooks to recapture him or else she'll "cancel" them herself.
