Evan Daniels, Storm's nephew, is exhibiting his mutant ability of projecting boned spikes and projectiles. Despite knowing his mutant abilities, Evan's initially refuses to join the X-Men. However, when former basketball teammate Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) continually steals money from him (along with getting him in trouble), Evan accepts the offer in an attempt to take his former friend down.
This episode provides examples of:
- Batman Gambit: Quicksilver suffers from this twice.
- Spyke knew Quicksilver couldn't resist gloating about getting away with stealing from the other students, so he had a recorder ready to go the entire time.
- Magneto and Mystique exploited Spyke and Quicksilver's rivalry and how X-Men always help each other. They knew Quicksilver would lose in the end and get thrown in jail, which would force him to agree to serve Magneto in exchange for being let out.
- Foreshadowing: Hinting at their relation, Magneto remarks that Quicksilver is someone he has a special interest in.
- Hero with Bad Publicity: Evan gets the blame for Quicksilver's stealing and thrown in jail. Even when he's let out, it's still on his record, so he takes measures to prove he was innocent all along.
- Humiliation Conga: Spyke gives his obnoxious rival exactly what he deserves: pins him to a brick wall to keep him from escaping, reveals a recording of Quicksilver's confession, and leaves him to be arrested.
- It's Personal: Evan really wants to take down his rival before and after joining the team.
- Loud Gulp: This was Evan’s reaction to being caught by the police in his school after Quicksilver vandalizes the school.
- The Rival: Spyke and Quicksilver have a long-running one that Magneto and Mystique aim to exploit.
- Smug Super: Quicksilver in spades. He openly gloats and exploits his speed to avoid getting in trouble.
- Villainous Breakdown: Quicksilver loses all his cool when he starts losing the fight and gets pinned to the wall.
- Welcome Episode: For Spyke and Quicksilver.
- You Are Not Alone: Spyke is insistent on taking down Quicksilver by himself. Cyclops points out no one on the X-Men is ever alone and says the key to winning is teamwork.
- "You!" Exclamation: Quicksilver when Magneto approaches him in jail.
