Tropes

  • Affably Evil: The wealthy residents of Orange County are a bright, perky Stepford Suburbia who casually talk about mutilating their disobedient servants and wearing their body parts as jewelry.
  • All Hail the Great God Mickey!: The fast food restaurant has space and alien-themed mascots. It eventually evolved into a full-blown UFO cult, complete with a mass suicide.
  • Bottle Episode: The episode, both the present-day scenes and Quiet's flashbacks, mostly takes place in one restaurant.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror:
    • Several Orange County residents treat an active shooter like a mere annoyance. They also wear the body parts of disobedient slaves as jewelry.
    • Quiet finds the frozen bodies of dead cultists in the restaurant's walk-in freezer. She simply walks past them and gets the food she needs.
  • Dumb Struck: OC slaves are required to be silent. Quiet struggles to talk even when she's alone with her brother.
  • Ear Ache: The fast food manager that Loud works for has a necklace of ears from disobedient workers. Loud gets his right ear cut off by his boss before Quiet rescues him.
  • Excrement Statement: Loud brags about farting on his boss' lunch.
  • Fingore: Quiet's master is the one who cut off her finger.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Quiet and Loud insult their coworker Tobin in earshot and they don't care.
  • Made a Slave: Quiet and her brother were both farm workers who agreed to take contracts as servants in exchange for beachfront property. They didn't know that the property was fake and that their masters would torture and mutilate them for disobedience.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Quiet and John have sex in a ball pit.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • This episode establishes a deadly type of electrical storm called a "Watkyn's Storm" that was caused by a nuclear power plant explosion in Watkyn's Harbor. Watkyn's Harbor is the name of a level from Twisted Metal (2012).
    • John and Quiet debate the existence of ghosts and aliens. Both creatures appear as player characters in the games.
  • Spiteful Spit: Loud does this to his boss when he threatens Quiet.
