Recap / Titans S 3 E 8 Home

Go To

As an emboldened Crane looks to filter his poison through Gotham's water system, Starfire - still plagued by visions - enlists Blackfire and Superboy's help, and Gar finally tracks down Jason.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Ambiguous Situation: There's no indication if Jason really killed Hank due to the drugs or on his own volition. Many assume the latter.
  • Bat Signal: Barbara projects a giant T on the clouds. Dick wants it bigger.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The ceiling pipe that's been dripping throughout the episode bursts when the pump station blows, flooding Barbara's office.
  • Come Alone: This time Jason is on the level when he asks for a meeting with Dick. They meet in one of Batman's tunnels so he can make sure no-one else is with him.
  • Destructo-Nookie: Conner and Blackfire end up breaking their bed while they are having sex.
  • Downer Ending: Starfire accidentally poisoned the water supply of Gotham City, and Scarecrow and Red Hood are still on the run.
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted by Kory when it comes to Jason. She recaps all the terrible things he did throughout the season and does not believe he should be forgiven, even if he wasn't the driving force.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Subverted; Crane seeks out his mother for sympathy, but she makes her disdain for him clear. When he realises the police are staking out her office with her compliance, he kills her.
  • Facial Recognition Software: When Tim said he recognized Jason Todd from the way he moved, Dick calls Barbara and gets her to run a gait recognition program on the CCTV footage.
  • Hallucinations: After being knocked down by a car while trying to follow Jason, Dick is released from hospital but suffers from hallucinations.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn:
    • Jason is on the cusp of switching sides back to the Titans. Aside from the drugs affecting his mind, all he wants is to come back home and rejoin his old team. However, Scarecrow deliberately stalls the process by framing Jason for Tim getting shot, which turns the Titans off from accepting him back.
    • Crane seems bothered by having to kill the kindly building inspector, bothered that his companion in crime has walked out on him, and feels driven to seek out Mom for help. Her 'betrayal' however puts him back on his villainous path.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Conner and Blackfire's cuddle time is interrupted by Kory. Played with in that Kory isn't in control and doesn't remember the experience, though she later figures out that they are a thing.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Tim Drake flat out tells Dick that he wants to be Robin.
  • In the Back: Tim is shot in the back by Scarecrow.
  • Matricide: Scarecrow kills his mother during his visit to the counselor's office.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Just like in the comics, Tim realized who Robin was by seeing him on television doing an acrobatic move that only the Graysons knew.
    • Dick hallucinates himself wearing the Robin suit from the comics.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Crane risks death as The Bait so Starfire, taking a shot at him, will burn a hole through the floor of the pumping station to spread his fear toxin throughout the city.
  • Not What It Looks Like:
    • Jason has the unfortunate luck of cradling a wounded Tim after he was shot by Scarecrow, right as the Titans arrive.
    • Blackfire gives the line when her sister walks in on her bonking Connor. In that case it is what it looks like.
  • Platonic Prostitution: Jason goes to a sex club and uses the couple there to apologize for killing Hank. The man refuses to play along and walks out, but the woman tries to give him some good advice before his time runs out.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Conner and Blackfire are officially a thing.
  • Spotting the Thread: As a kid, Tim saw Dick perform with his family at the circus. When he saw Robin using a move that only the Graysons were trained for, he knew who he was. When he saw Nightwing perform the exact same move, he knew Dick was also Nightwing. It was thus a logical jump to how Bruce Wayne was Batman.
  • A Storm Is Coming: Thunder is heard before, and lightning is shown after, Crane enacts his Evil Plan.
  • Their First Time: Conner's sex with Blackfire is his first one, something that amuses her.
  • Water Source Tampering: According to a long Gotham tradition.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: The building inspector laughs at the idiot who tried to use a concrete drill to cut through a ten-foot thick steel plate. Crane can only pretend to laugh along with him, until the inspector says you'd need a cutting torch with the power of the sun to get through it.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Scarecrow fakes being homeless to get a gun-toting building inspector to lower his guard.
  • You Know Too Much: Scarecrow neck-snaps the inspector after he sees the cannister of concentrated fear toxin and goes to call someone about it. As the inspector was kind to him and even gave him something to eat, Crane actually seems bothered by this.
