Go To

In their 22nd short, The Three Stooges are three jailbirds who decide to break out once they get a letter from their mother. She tells them their father has run out on her, having struck it rich from oil wells, to marry a young blonde. Determined to bring him back, after escaping, they confront their dad (who looks and acts similar to Curly, except with muttonchops), only for him to give them some money and kick them out to ready themselves for his wedding. After some shenanigans, the conniving young blonde mistakes Curly for his father (who had promised to shave off said muttonchops) and drags them to her apartment for the wedding. The trio soon discover that the blonde and her partners want to kill the groom after the wedding to get their hands on his money. Hilarity Ensues as Curly and his father run back and forth through the building, confusing their assailants. Their father decides to run for the police, while the Stooges are sent falling off a balcony. Fortunately, an awning cushions their fall, and they then land atop their father, whom they quickly drag back to mama.

This short was remade in 1953 as Up in Daisy's Penthouse.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Daisy believes that she married Old Man Howard to get his money; however, she's unaware that she married his son Curly. Also, due to failing to have Old Man Howard murdered, the Stooges escape and rescue their father. The chances are that the Stooges and their father will report the murder attempt to the police. Daisy gets nothing.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Daisy pretends to be cutesy with Old Man Howard, but really only wants his money.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: The warden apparently never noticed the boys had enough tools to fill a small garage under their bed
  • In the Blood: The Stooges' father looks just like Curly and is almost as silly, but after he draws his kids in with a little sweet talk and then slaps all three of them at once, it's easy to see where Moe gets it. Larry must take after their mother.
  • Noodle Implements: It's not at all elaborated on why the boys are in jail, but Curly's penchant for stealing nearly everything he touches might have something to do with it.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: The crooks plan to get the groom to the balcony, then claim he fell of by accident.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Moe pretends to be amused at Curly stealing a silver tray before attempting to bash him over the head with it. Curly, in a rare Genre Savvy moment, bolts in the opposite direction before Moe snaps.
    • Both Curly and his dad are sprinting all around the penthouse once everything goes left, confusing the hell out of their would-be assassins. The dad eventually leaves to go get the police involved, while Curly drags his brothers in on the chase and nearly gets them all killed.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In-Universe example, they go to a hat shop to buy Curly a new hat, and after going through every one they have, they end up leaving with the hat Curly was wearing when they came in.
  • Smart Ball: Moe gets the warden to plug in a drill while pretending it is the plug for his razor.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Curly and his father already looked (and acted) similar, but once the latter shaves off his sideburns, they could be twins.
