Recap / The Rookie 2018 S 1 E 16 Greenlight

Go To

Internal Affairs is conducting random integrity tests, which puts everyone on edge, especially Bradford, since there is bad blood between him and the internal affairs officer. Meanwhile Nolan gets in trouble with a gang of white supremacists, because he arrested the leaders girlfriend and her dress ripped. This results in him being put under a "Greenlight" which is is a code for gangs to be able to kill a police officer.

Captain Anderson takes up the position as Nolan's partner in order to protect him. Unfortunately, the attempt by the LAPD to force the Southern Front to drop the Greenlight doesn't work as both Anderson and Nolan are kidnapped by their leader.

Tropes:

  • As Himself: Mario Lopez appears as himself. He gets stopped by Bradford and Chen for running a stop sign and tries to convince them to not give him a ticket. It is actually an integrity test from IA.
  • Badass Boast: Sergeant West says he'll burn the Southern Front to the ground if its leader doesn't give up his son. He notably does this twice.
  • The Cameo: Mario Lopez from Saved by the Bell has a cameo.
  • Character Death: Captain Anderson is killed rescuing Nolan.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: For Captain Anderson. After being tied to a chair and pushed into a pool, she dislocates her wrist to escape her handcuffs and caps two white supremacists (one of them underwater with his own gun) before the third fatally wounds her in the throat.
  • Hypocrite: Bradford's hatred for Internal Affairs, particularly their use of Secret Test of Character.
Bradford: How are we supposed to do our jobs when our fellow cops are setting us up to fail?
Chen: I ask myself that every day.
  • Impromptu Tracheotomy: Captain Anderson is shot through her neck.
  • Not Me This Time: Bradford incorrectly assumes IA is behind a drug dealer who attempts to bribe them with a half million dollars in mushrooms.
  • Right-Wing Militia Fanatic: The Southern Front is the sixth largest gang in California and a white supremacist organization.
  • Secret Test of Character: Internal Affairs starts doing these and make the officers incredibly paranoid. Bradford accidentally wounds a suspect by prematurely opening a bear trap when he assumes it's another test.
