Recap / The Reviewers S1E4 "Reviewer Dibs"

Go To

Since the start of their website, Andy and Jeff have gotten along great. That is until one thing gets in their way: the dreaded Reviewer Dibs.

"Reviewer Dibs" provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Law: Jeff's manager Caroline claims that they have grounds to sue Andy for Plagiarism of Jeff's script even though neither of them have even started writing them yet, arguing that since they are reviewing the same movie they both might repeat each other unintentionally. Considering she's a drug-addict that Michelle sees right through, this makes it a Parodied Trope.
  • Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch: The Rickhead's response to Andy and Jeff's reviews of Asylum of Satan is that he tells his fans to give them shit for it without actually watching the videos.
  • Conflict Ball: The narrator lampshades how internet reviewers fighting over the thing they were reviewing is a common thing that happens in Video Review Shows (specifically Crossover episodes).
  • Entitled Bastard: The moment he hears Jeff plan his review of Asylum of Satan, he immediately calls "reviewer dibs" on it and the rest of the episode is based around the fallout of drama this causes.
  • Exact Words: Andy wants to review Asylum of Satan because it has "Asylum" in its name when he only reviews movies from The Asylum.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Jeff gives Caroline his month's payment, she suddenly acts like she cares about his problem and asks if he wants something to drink. When he asks if she has a Shasta, she says that they don't have time for drinks.
  • Mistaken for Gay: According to the narrator, half of Andy's fans are porn-bots who unsubscribed when they discovered that he wasn't Gayracula.
  • Skewed Priorities: Both Andy and Jeff want to review Asylum of Satan. Andy starts the drama and refuses to admit that Jeff planned on doing it first. Jeff has his manager threaten legal action if Andy does it.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: In-Universe. When Andy and Jeff both review Asylum of Satan, all anyone has to say about it (especially The Rickhead) is that one already did the other.

How well does it match the trope?
