Chapter 32: Frobo and the Toads

When Mayor Toadstool goes missing and the Plantar's vegetables get destroyed, the girls and the Plantars investigate.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adapted Out: Looks like the events of "New Wartwood" don't occur.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Sprig and Polly have some focus this time.
  • And This Is for...: Bog kicks Luz in the stomach in Fens' name after her powers cause her to collapse.
  • Bridal Carry: Anne carries an unconscious Luz back home this way, and Luz smiles when she does.
  • Call-Back:
    • The events of "Toad Tax" are mentioned a few times.
    • Sprig mentions Anne helping him realize his feelings for Ivy and helping him get together with her.
    • Bog brings up what happened at Tadpole Pond and how he and the toads left Sasha and Grime because of it.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Thanks to Gustav's bomb potion, Bog now wears an eyepatch on his right eye.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • The toads kidnap Mayor Toadstool during the night in order to get him to give them the town's taxes they believe he hid.
    • Sprig (and Luz) find Frobo with Polly in the forest as well as the camp of the toad army.
  • Freudian Excuse: While talking about Sasha, Luz and Anne voice the possibility that she acted the way she did to them because she was influenced by the toads. They then say they're just coming up with reasons to believe that because it'd be easier to accept.
  • The Ghost: Sasha, Grime, Ivy and Fens.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Polly bonds with Frobo and convinces Hop Pop to let him stay when he proves he's capable of doing farm work.
    • Bog becomes captain of the southern Toad Tower.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Sprig and Polly tell Luz they know what happened between her and Anne.
    • The girls and the Plantars learn the toads abandoned Sasha and Grime.
  • Just Friends: Luz tells Sprig and Polly that she and Anne are remaining as such until they go home.
  • Luminescent Blush: Luz's face turns red when the Plantar kids tell her they know about her crush on Anne.
  • The Matchmaker: Sprig and Polly attempt to be this for Luz and Anne. In Sprig's case, it's to repay Anne for when she was this for him and Ivy.
  • Out of Focus: Anne, Hop Pop and Marcy are shafted to the sideline after they split up from Luz, Sprig and Polly.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: The chapter fuses together "Friend or Frobo" and "Toad to Redemption", with Polly, Luz and Sprig finding Frobo and learning the toad army is in the forest near Wartwood, ready to invade.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Most of the toad army except Bog gets the heck outta dodge due to not wanting to face a super-powered Luz.
  • Shipper on Deck: Sprig and Polly offer to help Luz get together with Anne for their own reasons.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Polly still convinces the family to take in Frobo while Jacinda makes Bog the new captain of Toad Tower.
