Recap / The Odd Couple 1970 S 1 E 18 Bunny Is Missing Down By The Lake

Go To

Oscar is planning a peaceful weekend up in the woods when Felix comes home depressed after seeing his ex-wife with another man. Trying to distract him, Oscar takes his roommate to a cabin in the woods, where their typical disputes soon fall by the wayside when a trio of scouts and their pretty troop leader turn up at the cabin.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: The other two girls don't make Bunny's weekend any better. Cindy continually calls her weird, saying that she and Lois both hate her and predicting that Oscar will, too.
  • Fallback Marriage Pact: Downplayed. Bunny asks Felix if they can meet in front of the zoo if they're both still single twenty years in the future. While not romantically interested in her, Felix agrees to make her happy.
  • Goodbye, Cruel World!: The depressed Felix tells Oscar he'll leave him a note if he does anything stupid.
  • On the Rebound: Bunny develops a crush on Felix. When they talk it through later, she confesses that she just got dumped by her "boyfriend", who gave her ring to another, older girl.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title refers to the movie Bunny Lake Is Missing.
  • Precocious Crush: Bunny, the most withdrawn of the trio, gravitates towards the Shakespeare book and develops a childhood crush on Felix when he does a scene with her. She runs away out of jealousy when Julie takes Felix away. After he and Oscar find her, Felix tells her he's flattered, but he thinks he's a little old to be her Romeo.
  • Shout-Out: After Oscar finds out the "girls" Julie mentioned are all kids, he complains that of course the first attractive woman he meets up in the mountains has The Brady Bunch with her.
  • Tempting Fate: Initially, Oscar and Felix only see Julie, the scout leader, so when she asks for shelter for herself and three girls, Oscar assumes they've hit the jackpot. It turns out the girls are kids.
  • Too Unhappy to Be Hungry: When Oscar takes the kids to raid the fridge, Bunny says "no thanks" and stays by the window. Given that she ran off soon afterwards, she presumably felt too upset to eat.
