Film: Fantastic Four (2005)
Tagline: Well, there are 4 of them, it’s the Fantastic part I’m questioning.
This review provides examples of:
- Actor Allusion: Invoked by the Critic, who acknowledges that Johnny and Captain America are both played by Chris Evans. At the scene where Johnny falls into heavy snow, the Critic jokes that he was frozen there for years in an attempt to tie up both continuities.
- Artistic License – Physics: After Thing crushes up Johnny's Cool Car into a ball, he throws the license plate at his head. NC says that it should've cut his head off.
- Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: All Malcolm had to do was touch Cthulhu to turn him into the head of Tong Shau Ping (Deng Xiaoping) from Hong Kong '97.
- Ms. Fanservice: The Critic sees Jessica Alba being casted just so she could show some cleavage and strip naked... and not much else.
- Obviously Evil: "HIS NAME IS VON DOOM!"
- "But hey, don't let his label tip you off. Let the giant menacing statue, hiding in the shadows during meetings, and the fact that he stole your former girlfriend tip you off."
- The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: The Critic considers the team as lazy jerks who don't do anything special with their new powers. Naturally, Critic, Malcolm, and Tamara as "the Adequately-Impressive Three" don't do anything with their powers either.
- Reality Warper: Malcolm/"Pixelator" can turn anything into a Video Game Character. Just ask Cthulhu.
- Shout-Out: The reporter asks Malcolm how he feels about people saying his powers are a ripoff of the new Adam Sandler movie.
- Superpower Lottery: "How come you guys get all the cool stuff?!"
- Take That!: During a scene where Johnny shows Thing a toy of him, NC says that it'll go great with the (non-existent) Black Widow merchandise.
- They also flat out state that the new Fantastic Four movie will suck, even though this was released a while before that film hit theaters. Accurate prediction, isn't it?
- What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: At the end, Rob's new superpower is... being the best at Hong Kong '97. Naturally, he's less than thrilled (see Superpower Lottery).
It's clobbering time!
