Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 1 E22b The Old Switcheroo

Go To

One of a few episodes of any Winnie the Pooh series to be based on a story from the original books. Roo and Piglet switch places so that the former can avoid taking a bath and instead play in the mud with Tigger.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Tigger effectively replaces Rabbit in this story.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: Zigzagged: In the original story it was made a lot more clear that Kanga knew it was Piglet the whole time but was treating him like Roo in order to teach him a lesson; it's not clarified well in this adaptation and as a result it makes it look like Kanga is suffering from this trope.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The only New Adventures episode to focus heavily on Kanga.
  • Baths Are Fun: Roo didn't want to have a bath and Tigger convinced him that baths were "the end." In the end, Kanga got them in the bath ("scrubbly bubbly") and Tigger realized the truth about baths. "You get, you get... you get clean." Roo declares that it's fun and Tigger admits that he was wrong, though he was right about one thing... it is... the end. (And the episode ends.)
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Tigger looks at the camera and says "I was right about one thing, it is the end."
  • Bubble Gum Popping: The episode opens on Tigger chewing bubble gum and blowing a bubble shaped like himself. When he's bragging to Roo that he's not afraid of anything, the bubble pops behind him, startling him. Later, the two of them are chewing gum while playing in the mud and decide to see who can blow the biggest bubble. Their bubbles burst, leaving them entangled in gum.
  • Covered in Gunge: Tigger and Roo get covered in mud and bubblegum while playing together.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Tigger's song, "The end". Full stop.
  • Faux Horrific: In the beginning, Roo appears and begs Tigger to save him...from Kanga about to give him a bath.
  • Gaslighting: Because Pooh forgot his part of what to do in Tigger's plan, Piglet is forced to suffer this as part of Kanga's Adaptational Dumbass when she mistakes him for Roo, much to his chagrin. When Pooh finally remembers this and finishes his part of the plan, it's far too late as Piglet was already given Roo's bath instead. When Kanga asks who Piglet is, still under the impression that he was Roo, Pooh (in typical fashion) forgets in the moment, causing Piglet to go briefly insane. Fortunately, Pooh recognizes Piglet after he falls into a river and they make amends, while Kanga reunites with Roo after he and Tigger wind up getting themselves trapped in a mass of mud and bubblegum.
  • Hates Baths: Tigger tries to hide Roo from Kanga to keep from taking a bath. Tigger seems to hate baths even more than Roo does, as he keeps claiming they lead to "The End!"
  • Mythology Gag: The episode takes rough story beats from the chapter "In Which Kanga and Baby Roo Come to the Forest and Piglet has a Bath" from the original novel. Incidentally Piglet's Big Movie would adapt the story more fully for the Disney canon.
  • Patter Song: "The End", courtesy of Tigger.
