Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 1 E22a Party Poohper

Go To

Rabbit's relatives, consisting of five hundred little white bunnies wearing identical party hats, are coming by for a visit. Rabbit enlists Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet to prepare a party. Of course, a series of outrageous complications ensue and Rabbit gets bent out of shape over the fact that his strict schedule is not being followed. In the end, Rabbit learns An Aesop about not being so inflexible.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • An Aesop: Lampshaded by Rabbit at the end: “Who needs a schedule for a party? Parties are supposed to be fun and you can have fun whenever you want.”
  • Bigger on the Inside: Rabbit's picnic basket fits into this when he pops out of it after his relatives' reaction to Piglet's story causes an explosion in his house.
  • Dissonant Serenity: While telling a fairy tale to the bunnies, Piglet disturbingly thought that the giant gobbling up a whole village and living happily ever after was a good ending. The bunnies disagreed.
  • Downer Ending: Piglet’s retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk ends with the giant eating everyone in Jack’s village.
  • Everybody Cries: Rabbit's relatives, when Piglet reads them a version of Jack and the Beanstalk which for some reason ends with the giant winning.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Rabbit casually reads the next step after combing his ears is "Prepare for party", after which he realizes too late he has 500 relatives coming over that afternoon.
Rabbit: Number 3: "Prepare for party." PARTY?!?! AAAAAAGH!!!!! I forgot!!! I have 500 relatives coming over at 6:00!!!
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: Piglet's take on Jack and the Beanstalk obviously has some deviations from the original story, the most prominent being the giant eating everyone in Jack's village.
  • Hope Spot: Two. First when Rabbit, Tigger, and Pooh have successfully gotten the former’s house in order and Piglet has kept the bunnies entertained long enough; however, it’s ruined when the bunnies cry out in despair after Piglet’s book has a Downer Ending and sets Rabbit’s house back to square one. Not long after, Rabbit gets everything back in order by himself and the other three have kept the bunnies occupied with a walk through the forest, only for the bunnies to fall into Gopher’s tunnel.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: To be fair to Rabbit, his relatives showing up two hours early did nothing to help the situation. Nobody wants guests to show up to a party at their house before they’re ready for them. And having a schedule to actually prepare for the party isn’t a bad idea, he just goes out of control with his Control Freak tendencies.
  • Lethal Chef: Attempting to bake a cake, Pooh makes mistakes such as putting in flowers instead of flour. Somehow, the resulting concoction causes Rabbit's oven to explode.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After Piglet inadvertently ruins Rabbit's party again after he had finally got it set up properly, Rabbit kicks Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet out of his house, ordering them to keep his relatives occupied while he sets everything up again.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Rabbit's relatives, no doubt about it.
  • Schedule Fanatic: Rabbit being this is pretty much the whole premise of the episode.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Gopher's role in the episode is this more or less. While paying what would be a normal visit to see Rabbit, he's unexpectedly recruited to go fetch some honey for the party. After a failed attempt and being driven away by some angry bees from a nearby hive, Gopher tries to get revenge by blowing up their hive with some dynamite. Halfway into his plan, he disappears and Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger wind up stumbling into his dynamite's lamp switch by pure coincidence when trying to get the bunnies back to the surface. Shenanigans ensue, the dynamite goes off, and the beehive is destroyed, but neither they nor Gopher are anywhere to be seen afterwards.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Right when Rabbit finishes setting up the party, the bunnies' crying undoes it all and he has to start over.
Rabbit: Where did the schedule say 'Bunnies Cry'?! Where?! Show me where!
