Recap / The New Adventures of Invader Zim, ME4 "Camping Trip of Doom"

Go To

Team Save Earth's attempt to take a relaxing camping trip is sabotaged by a petty Gaz. Thanks to a bad luck curse, things go downhill fast.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Kleodora is this to Steve, who while physically attracted to her is turned off by her aggressive flirtation.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Gaz makes several references to the ending of "Two Girls in the Woods", where she was chased through the woods by the Children of Gaea's Love.
    • The bad luck curse Gaz uses is the same one that Viera used on her in "Clash of the Goths".
  • Double Standard: Discussed. Steve calls Kleodora's constant slapping of his ass harassment, which she defends by saying that if a man did it to a woman, he'd call it being playful. Steve responds by saying no, he'd still call it harassment.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Dib and Viera do this when seeing each other in their swimsuits. And try to avoid doing it even more when they both end up losing those swimsuits.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • Tak's reaction to Zim accidentally trapping himself in pink goo in his base is to camp out on his lawn and watch him struggle to break free.
    • Gaz curses her brother and his friends because she's jealous that they get to do something fun for the weekend while she's grounded, a situation that the three had nothing to do with.
  • Exact Words: Kleodora promises Steve that if he plays along with her challenge, Dib and Viera won't see him naked. She didn't say anything about anyone other than those two seeing him.
  • Humiliation Conga: Because of Gaz's bad luck curse, Steve ends up running across Kleodora as she's bathing, causing her to steal his clothes as punishment. She then forces him to chase after her through the woods to win them back, which leads to him running into a girl scout jamboree, a bunch of nuns, wannabe journalists, and a bunch of drunk trigger-happy Crazy Survivalists, all of whom chase and attack him in response.
  • Intimate Lotion Application: Viera asks Dib to rub lotion on her back while she sunbathes, leaving him flustered. He complies, which makes things both awkward and enjoyable for them both, only for the Slaughtering Rat People's arrival to ruin the moment.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: As a dryad, Kleodora's idea of clothing is placing some leaves over her nipples and genitals, and nothing else. She doesn't understand why humans feel the need to cover up beyond that.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After learning about the bad luck curse, which led to Steve's above-mentioned Humiliation Conga and Dib and Viera being chased by the Slaughtering Rat People, Kleodora tracks down Gaz and punishes her for casting the curse by teleporting her into the forest, naked and in front of the Rat People, who start chasing her.
  • Naked People Are Funny:
    • Kleodora steals Steve's clothes as punishment for accidentally peeping on her bathing, then makes him chase her through the woods to get them back, leading to him being seen by multiple people.
    • Dib and Viera lose their swimsuits while fleeing the Slaughtering Rat People, and after the immense awkwardness of this have to continue to continue to do so while in the buff. Then after losing the Rat People, they make their way back to camp using uprooted bushes as cover.
    • Kleodora punishes Gaz by stripping her and dumping her in the woods as well.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Gaz's reaction to being chased naked through the woods by the Slaughtering Rat People, as it's very similar to what the Children of Gaea's Love did to her several chapters earlier.
  • Our Nymphs Are Different: Kleodora is a dryad, and has the standard wood-like skin and green hair, as well as the ability to teleport herself or others.
  • Shipper on Deck: Steve is aware of Dib and Viera's UST, and fully supportive of them hooking up.
  • Slippery Swimsuit: After the Slaughtering Rat People chase them over a waterfall, Dib and Viera's swimsuits snag on some branches they pass on the way down and tear off. It's noted that this is highly unlikely, and implied to be a direct result of the curse.
  • Suggestive Collision: When Steve finally manages to catch Kleodora, he ends up accidentally knocking her over, causing her to land on top of him, leaving their faces very close together. The fact that they’re both naked at this point just adds to the situation.
