Recap / The Nanny S 4 E 24 The Heather Biblow Story

Go To

Fran's rival Heather Biblow gets a part on The Young and the Restless, and invites Fran and Val to visit her in California. When Heather is too stupid to remember her four lines, Fran is hired on the spot to replace her.

  • All Part of the Show: Yetta witnessed the Pearl Harbor attack, but mistakenly believes that it was an air show celebrating Hanukkah. (For the record, the first day of Hanukkah fell on December 15 in 1941.)
  • As Himself: What with the Hollywood setting, there are quite a few celebrities appearing as themselves. Given the storyline, it's no surprise that most were cast members on The Young and the Restless at the time, as well as a couple from The Bold and the Beautiful. Both soaps air on CBS, the same network that aired The Nanny.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: After years of trying to get rid of Fran so she can have Maxwell all to herself, C.C. is horrified when she learns Maxwell hired Heather Biblow as Fran's replacement. By the time Fran comes back, C.C. is crying Tears of Joy and hugging (a very confused and disturbed) Fran.
C.C.: DON'T YOU EVER LEAVE ME AGAIN!
  • Freudian Slip:
Fran: Let me ask you something, Heather, who did you have to — I mean, what did you have to do to get this part?
  • Mistaken for Prostitute: Variation. At the studio, Fran and Val are briefly mistaken for actresses playing hookers, and are complimented on their "costumes." Later, Fran is mistaken for a stripper.
Fran: First, they think I'm a hooker and now I'm a stripper. I'd better get this dress in every color.
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue: After Maxwell is once again clueless, Niles comments, "Oh God, is there a bigger buffoon in this world?" Cue C.C. bursting in the door.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
Fran: My God, they're here today, gone tomorrow. It's a reason not to be a sitcom star.
    • And also:
Fran: Oh, acting isn't for me. You know, they drive you nuts. You do a breakfast scene, you got to be in it with all that hair and makeup and a bathrobe. It's so unrealistic.
  • Shirtless Scene: Fran convinces Shemar Moore to pose shirtless for her and Val.
  • Shout-Out: When Fran is selected to replace Heather:
Director: But Peter, who on earth are we gonna find who can take her place on such short notice?
Fran: [reading from the script] "Oh Jack, I don't give a damn about Victor. I love you."
    Peter Bergman: [pointing] That girl!
    [That Girl theme music plays]
  • The Show Goes Hollywood: Fran and Val go to Hollywood, and Fran briefly gets a part on The Young and the Restless
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
Niles: [on the phone with Fran] Miss Fine, you're telling me that you've taken a job on a soap, and you're not coming home? Well, of course I'm shocked. They gave you a speaking part?
    • Later:
Niles: Miss Fine has taken a job on a soap opera, and she's not coming home.
    Maxwell: What? A speaking part?
