  • Song: "You're Gonna Miss Piggy, Some of These Days" — Miss Piggy
  • Backstage: Kermit offers Loretta Miss Piggy's role in Pigs in Space.
  • Sketch: Pigs in Space — First Mate Loretta

This episode provides the example of:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: A Kaiju-sized Thog appears in "I Feel the Earth Move".
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the other Muppets are terribly sorry about Piggy being fired, even singing in happiness, though if there's anyone that they're not going to miss, it's her dog, Foo-Foo.
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue: At the end, Loretta talks about how she could never replace Miss Piggy, adding that it's always hard to fill another actor's shoes. Cue Piggy dressed as Maj. Houlihan, Swit's role on M*A*S*H.
Miss Piggy: Funny, the shoes don't fit.
  • Kaiju: Thog is scaled up to kaiju-size for "I Feel the Earth Move".
  • On Second Thought: During Pigs In Space, Piggy, when she sees Loretta as First Mate, runs onstage to take over. Kermit, furious that Piggy hasn't left, runs onstage to kick her out. Loretta intervenes, trying to get Kermit to change his mind about firing her.
Loretta: Come on now, let's sing a nice, warm, lovely, together song. Huh?
Kermit: I hate sappy songs like that.
Loretta: All right then, why don't you two just kiss and make up?
[Kermit and Piggy look at each other. A Beat.]
Kermit: Well, let's sing the sappy song.
  • The Other Darrin: In-Universe. After Piggy is fired, Loretta plays her roles in the "Veterinarian's Hospital" and "Pigs In Space" sketches. During the latter, Piggy shows up to retake her role.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When Kermit finds out that Miss Piggy planted a lie in a gossip column about them being secretly married, he finally gets fed up with her antics and loses his cool, telling her that she is fired.
  • Rearrange the Song: The new opening sequence for the season is first used in this episode, featuring Statler and Waldorf asking why they always come to the show.
  • Re-Cut: The "Auld Lang Syne" segment was only shown in the UK until the episode was reran on Nickelodeon.
  • Repeat After Me: The "Veterinarian's Hospital" sketch begins with only Janice and Dr. Bob.
Dr. Bob: Say, isn't somebody missing?
    Janice: Okay. "Isn't somebody missing?"
  • Self-Serving Memory: Miss Piggy insists that she quit, rather than Kermit firing her.
  • White Flag: At the end of the "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" number, a rattlesnake waves a white flag after Gonzo brings in a bunch of gunslinger chickens to deal with the predators that have gotten into his henhouse.

Statler: South Dakota!
Waldorf: South Dakota has nothing to do with this show.
Statler: That's what I want: nothing to do with this show!
