Face the Music With the Casagrandes

Ronnie Anne is woken up by the sound of a guitar, which she soon discovers is being played by Hector. He reveals that it's his birthday and he expects his family to perform for him, as per tradition. Carlota, Carlitos, and Lalo will be doing a fashion show, CJ and Carl will wrestle, Bobby and Sergio will sing, Frida has painted herself, Rosa will do a Mexican dance and make spicy shrimp, Carlos will recite a poem about Hector, and Maria will play the harp.

Some time later on the balcony, Ronnie Anne asks Sid what she can do for Hector's birthday, revealing that she fell over during a first grade play and now has stage fright because of that. Sid decides to help Ronnie Anne get over her fear, taking her to the subway since everybody there are strangers. However, they decide to give up on this plan when the driver turns out to be Mr. Chang. Sid decides to have Ronnie Anne practice on an empty street, but Ronnie Anne becomes scared again when people arrive and mistake her for a street performer.

When Ronnie Anne arrives home, she decides to give Hector a gift instead of performing, and is about to give him a conga drum, but then she overhears Hector saying that he doesn't care about gifts. She is now at a loss for what to do, but when she overhears Bobby and Sergio singing, decides to join in (since it's only solo performances that scare her).

However, Sergio eats all the shrimps, which gives him laryngitis and makes him very sleepy, more people are invited, and Ronnie Anne has belatedly realised that, fear or no fear, she doesn't know the words to the song, so she runs into her bedroom to sulk.

Hector asks her what's wrong, and she explains everything. He reveals that he used to have stage fright as well, for the same reason as Ronnie Anne, but he outgrew it, and then he and Bobby sing the duet and then everybody sings.

"Face the Music With the Casagrandes"

  • All Part of the Show: When Ronnie Anne tries performing on a street corner, she freezes up and the crowd mistake her for a living statue performer, and throw money at her feet.
  • Artistic License – Biology: When Sergio eats the spicy shrimp, he can taste it (real birds can't taste spice) and it hurts his throat and leaves him too tired to fly, eventually making him pass out. Spicy food doesn't hurt your throat unless you already have a sore throat, and spicy food definitely doesn't cause tiredness (in fact, it even gives some people insomnia).
  • Birthday Episode: Hector's birthday, that is.
  • Birthday Party Goes Wrong: Downplayed. While most of the problems are fixed, Sergio is still unwell and there is still no spicy shrimp available.
  • Brick Joke: at the end of their respective flashbacks, Ronnie Anne and Hector swore to do something if they see the people who yelled "Timber!" and "Viva que?" respectively:
    • In Ronnie Anne's flashback:
    Person in the crowd: Timber!
    [cuts back to the present]
—>Ronnie Anne: If I ever find that kid who yelled "timber"...
    • And in Hector's flashback:
Person in the crowd: Viva que?!
    [cuts back to the present]
—>Hector: If I ever find that guy who yelled "viva que".
  • The Cameo: Flip appears in the subway.
  • Crowd Song: At the end, everyone sings an improvised song.
  • Generation Xerox: Both Ronnie Anne and her maternal grandfather fumbled a play when they were in the first grade that left them afraid to perform in front of anyone. When Ronnie Anne trips again while joining her family in a performance, Hector tells her she takes after him.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Sergio claims he didn't eat the shrimp, but
  • Irony: Sid says that Ronnie Anne performing in the subway is a great way to conquer stage fright because she will never see any of the people on the train again. It then shows Flip walking in the background.
  • Lost Voice Plot: Downplayed. Sergio getting laryngitis is an important plot point, but not the whole plot.
  • Performance Anxiety: Ronnie Anne has this problem; i.e. she's afraid to perform. However, unlike most cases of stage fright, it's not just because she thinks performing is scary but rather because she had an embarrassing experience onstage when she was about six or seven. Hector also used to have stage fright from a similar experience, but he outgrew it.
  • Playing a Tree: Ronnie Anne played a tree in her first grade play. When she tripped and fell on her face, someone in the audience yelled, "Timber!".
    • Likewise, when Hector was in his 1st grade play wearing a Nopal (cactus) costume, he tripped while giving his line (Presumably "Viva Mexico") with someone in the audience yelling "Viva que!?"
  • You No Take Candle: Due to laryngitis, Sergio is reduced to terse sentences like "Water" and "Wasn't me".

Pranks for the Memories With the Casagrandes

Ronnie Anne and Sid are watching 'Twelve is Midnight' videos, and Ronnie Anne promises to jump in puddles with CJ, helps Carl beat his video game, and shares some apple juice with Carlitos. Sid is impressed at how good Ronnie Anne is at bonding with her male cousins, but when Carlota arrives, Ronnie Anne tries to compliment her bag, only for it to turn out to be a garbage bag. Ronnie Anne reveals that she always messes up when she tries to bond with Carlota, for instance she tried to show her a filter on her phone that makes you look old, but it ended up making her cry. Sid can relate, since she's been trying and failing to get the zoo's kookaburra to like her.

Just then, the adults leave to go to a restaurant where minors aren't allowed, leaving Bobby in charge of the store and Carlota in charge of the kids. Ronnie Anne wants to order a pizza for her and Carlota to share, but they have different preferences and neither wants to order for herself. Meanwhile, Carlota is trying to make a video online, but is hindered by CJ squirting her with a squirt gun and someone else putting a whoopee cushion on her chair.

The girls then watch a movie together, but it puts Ronnie Anne to sleep. She tries to do a magazine quiz with Carlota, but none of the questions are applicable to her, then CJ and Carl bomb the girls with colonge. Carlota explains that her brothers always prank her when she's in charge, so Ronnie Anne, who's a prankster herself, suggests getting revenge on them with more pranks.

The girls set up a trap designed to shower the boys with hair gel and breadcrumbs. However, when they go out of hiding, they find that the trap is gone and end up with hair gel and breadcrumbs falling on them, since the boys reassembled the trap somewhere else.

The girls clean up, declare the situation a "prank war", and try to set a trap so that water balloons will fall on the boys. However, the trap doesn't work and the boys steal the balloons and throw them at the girls. Ronnie Anne puts a rope over the sink so the faucet will spray water on whoever uses it and tells the boys to wash their hands. However, the boys wash their hands normally and spray the girls (who were hiding in the bathtub) with the shower. Ronnie Anne puts a spring-loaded pie in the fridge but it ends up hitting her instead, so the girls decide to give up.

However, when Maybelle phones the landline to complain about the store being closed early, Ronnie Anne concludes that Bobby must have closed it early to help the male cousins with their pranks. She and Carlota decide to continue their pranking efforts now that they know the boys' "weapon".

Ronnie Anne is proven to be right when all the boys including Bobby are shown in the store drinking juice "to payback". The girls go down into the store, spray the boys with pickle juice, dump catnip on them, and sic the cats on the boys. The prank is successful, but the cats end up trashing Carlota's bedroom to get the tuna salad which is there. Ronnie Anne apologises and reveals that she was trying to make friends with Carlota. In the end, the girls have finally bonded, as have Sid and the kookaburra.

"Pranks for the Memories With the Casagrandes"

  • Alliterative Title: The movie the girls watch is titled Rideshare Romance.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Unlike Lori, when Carlota is left in charge of her younger brothers, she can't control them and they spend the entire time playing pranks on her.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Bobby joins his male cousins in using Ronnie Anne and Carlota's pranks against them when he figures out that the girls are planning to prank the boys.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • When Ronnie Anne and Sid are watching a video of Twelve Is Midnight, the lead singer is singing a Korean version of the song "Ooh Girl".
    • The vicious gang of cats from "The Loudest Mission: Relative Chaos" returns in this episode.
  • Food Coma: Discussed. Ronnie Anne says she ate too much to try to justify falling asleep, but in truth she was just bored.
  • Friend to All Living Things: With the exception of the kookaburra, the zoo animals instinctively like Sid.
  • Grossout Fakeout: When one of the boys pranks Carlota with a whoopee cushion, her friend Sophia thinks she actually farted.
  • Nasal Trauma: When Sergio chases the girls, trying to eat the breadcrumbs off them, he ends up with his beak slammed in the door.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Ronnie Anne pranked Bobby so frequently in Royal Woods that he is now unable to grow hair on a portion of his face.
  • Pie in the Face: Ronnie Anne puts a spring-loaded pie in the fridge, meant to hit one of the boys, but it ends up hitting her.
  • Road Apples: Not only does the bag Ronnie Anne complimented turn out to be a garbage bag, it was meant to carry Lalo's poop.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Cats are shown loving fish, as the stray cats ransack Carlota's room looking for tuna salad.
  • Tears of Joy: Carlota cries happily after watching the movie.
  • Unconventional Food Usage: The girls try to dump breadcrumbs on the boys, but the breadcrumbs end up being dumped on them instead.
  • Water Guns and Balloons: CJ fires a squirt gun at Carlota, then later she and Ronnie Anne try to drench the boys with water balloons, only for them to get off dry but throw them at the girls.
  • Whoopee Cushion: At one point, one of the boys puts a whoopee cushion on Carlota's chair.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: When Bobby learns that Ronnie Anne and Carlota are going to prank the other boys, using pranks she's previously used on him, he coaches the boys on how to undo their pranks and use them against the girls. Ronnie Anne recognizes this as payback for all the times she's pranked him.
