Recap / The Loud House S 2 E 2 Intern For The Worse The Old And The Restless

Go To

Intern for the Worse: Tensions run high when Lincoln and Clyde both get an internship at Flip's and compete to win the manager title.

The Old and the Restless: When Lincoln sees how tame Pop-Pop has gotten in his older age, he takes him out for a day to remember.

"Intern for the Worse"

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Lincoln and Clyde due to their (fake) management titles.
  • And Your Reward Is Edible: The only real advantage a promotion from Flip brings is that the currently highest ranking employee gets an unlimited Flippee cup, which allows the possessor to have as many Flippees as they want.
  • Artistic License – Child Labor Laws: Lincoln and Clyde, two 11-year olds, are hired as interns. Then again, their boss is Flip, who does very illegal activities.
  • Ascended Extra: This is Flip's first big role in the series.
  • Big Ball of Violence: When Lincoln and Clyde fight each other.
  • Blackmail: Lincoln and Clyde eventually blackmail Flip with the gas station's security footage that clearly shows all his Cutting Corners tricks, and threaten to publish it on the Internet.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The supermarket manager from "Cereal Offender" is a part of the Intern Fair.
    • Lynn still believes her team cannot go #2 until they're #1, as she first mentions in "Sleuth or Consequences". She forbids Margo from using the bathroom the first time their team is at Flip's, and when said team comes back at the end of the episode, they happily chant, "We're #1! Time for #2!", which Lynn used at the end of "Sleuth or Consequences".
  • Cutting Corners: Flip really likes to do this. This includes changing the expiration date on the milk, reusing spilled foods and drinks, and even using his own sweat as water to wash car windows with.
  • Disgusting Public Toilet: Lola complains that the bathroom at Flip’s is this. Clyde immediately cleans it for her in order to get his promotion. It becomes this again after Lynn and her teammates use it.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Lincoln and Clyde are at the right place at the right time to overhear Flip telling his fishing partner how he has been making the two boys work harder with Non Promotions.
  • Feud Episode: Between Lincoln and Clyde.
  • Gasshole: Implied. When filling Lola's car with premium gas, Lincoln hands Lana a back of beef jerky, saying "...and gas for you'', implying that beef jerky makes Lana gassy.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: Illusion of promotion and reward motivates workers to work with bigger efficiency.
  • The Intern: Both Lincoln and Clyde become this at Flip's.
  • Non-Promotion: Flip keeps giving Lincoln and Clyde more important sounding job titles. In reality, it’s just a trick to make them work harder; they don’t actually get more authority around the gas station because of it and still have to do the same work.
  • Toilet Humor: The first time Lynn's team is at Flip's, Margo says she needs to "take a wicked dump", the first time a phrase like that is used in a children's cartoon. Lynn prevents Margo from doing so at the time, fearing the team won't win the game if she goes beforehand. The team ends up winning and proceed to celebrate by coming back to Flip's and going #2 in Flip's bathroom, which creates a big mess that Flip has to clean up afterward (he closes the episode by saying "holy nacho!" in reaction to seeing this mess).
  • We Used to Be Friends: Lincoln and Clyde’s friendship is severely strained due to how Flip tricks them into competing against each other. They even come to blows at the height of their conflict. Fortunately, it gets better when they realize they have been tricked.

"The Old and the Restless"

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Pop Pop.
  • Battleaxe Nurse: Sue. Good thing Pop Pop inspires the other inhabitants of the retirement home to stand up to her.
  • Big Eater: Pop Pop once cleaned out an entire Chinese buffet.
  • Book Ends: The episode starts with Lincoln being dropped off at Sunset Canyon by Rita, and ends with her returning to pick him up and take him home.
  • Cool Old Guy: Pop Pop from dancing, laser tag, and mechanical bull riding among other things. The other seniors count as well for helping him and Lincoln sneak back into the retirement home after curfew.
  • False Teeth Tomfoolery: Pop Pop loses his false teeth when he and Lincoln are riding bumper cars and collide head on. They end up in Lincoln's hair.
  • Fartillery: Pop Pop gets gassy after eating chili.
  • Foreshadowing: When Lincoln arrives at the retirement home, Sue is shown kicking out a resident for missing curfew.
  • Given Name Reveal: Pop Pop's real name is revealed to be Albert.
  • Glasses Curiosity: Lincoln takes a passerby man's glasses and puts them on when the boy thinks he sees Pop Pop about to skydive.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Lincoln manages to convince Pop Pop not to let himself be treated as a weak old man by Sue, and have fun instead. Unfortunately, Pop Pop gets a little too carried away and thus threatens to miss curfew.
  • The Killjoy: Sue, who prevents the seniors from having fun.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: This is Lincoln’s exact words when Pop Pop gets carried away having fun, as mentioned above.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Pop Pop streaks at a baseball game. At the end of the episode, he decides to skinny dip in the retirement home’s pool.
  • Never My Fault: Sue kicks out Pop Pop for missing curfew, despite the fact that he was late because she decided to lock up early.
  • Never Say "Die": Pop Pop almost says he had to wait for “three people to kick the bucket” before he could move into the retirement home. Instead, he says that they “moved out”.
  • Parachute in a Tree: Pop Pop ends up in a tree after his parachute jump.
  • Race Against the Clock: When Pop Pop leaves Sunset Canyon, Lincoln has until his curfew time to return him otherwise he'll be evicted.
  • Retired Badass: Pop Pop may be old, but it doesn't stop him from handing out a old-fashioned Curb-Stomp Battle to a crew of Navy SEALs in paintball.
