This episode contains examples of:

  • Call-Back: Janja and his clan chasing the impalas into a gorge is like that of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed chasing the wildebeests in The Lion King (1994). It even plays the same scene exactly like the other hyenas and wildebeests.
  • Catchphrase: "Panic and Run" seems to be the catchphrase among zebras when hyenas attack.
  • Death Glare: Fuli and Kion both give one to Tamaa when he tries to bluff his way out of trouble. Of course the audience and the Guard know it is a lie.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While calling him evil may be a bit much, Tamaa causes a lot of havoc by imitating the voices of various predators to scare animals. But after Janja holds him hostage and tries to use his abilities for evil, he decides that from now on, he'll use his imitating skills for good.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Tamaa's ability to imitate other animals is what allows Janja to capture him.
  • "I Am" Song: “Bird of a Thousand Voices”, sung by Tamaa in regards to his talent
  • Idiot Ball: C'mon impala. Even IF Kion said so, does it really make any sense to go to the OUTLANDS to hide from Janja and his hyenas? Cheezi also has a moment of seizing the ball because Tamaa is literally in his mouth when he dupes him, although Cheezi wasn't too bright to begin with.
  • Jerkass: Tamaa uses his talent to steal other animals' food. Truth in Television; fork-tailed drongos earn a quarter of their daily calories this way. Although Tamaa appears to be a greater racket-tailed drongo, which is also known to steal food from other animals using their vocal mimicry.
  • Meaningful Name: Tamaa means "disappointed" in Swahili.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Tamaa is shown as a greater racket-tailed drongo, despite that species not being native to Africa.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Tamaa when he realises he helped the Janja and his clan go after a heard of impalas.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Cheezi's decision to let Tamaa go is what enables him to scare them so easily and ultimately allows the Lion Guard to find and scare them off for good.
  • Oh, Crap!: The hyenas are terrified of Tamaa's imitations, and Cheezi appears to be on the verge of a Bring My Brown Pants until Janja sees through the imitations.
  • Sapient Eat Sapient: Exploited by Tamaa who imitates the voices of various predators to scare animals away from their food.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Tamaa's reaction when found is to screech like a monkey.
  • Tooka Level In Kindness: Tamaa returns to help the impalas.
  • Terror Hero: While calling him a hero in general may be going a bit far, Tamaa's attempt to get rid of the hyenas is this. In fact, if Cheezi hadn't asked about running, Tamaa probably would have gotten rid of the hyenas on his own.
  • Voice Changeling: Tamaa is a bird that is naturally gifted in imitating other animals. He uses this gift to imitate specific characters, right down to their voice inflections.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: Kion calls Tamaa out for using his voice imitating ability to scare animals when it could be used to help safeguard the Circle of Life. At first Tamaa pretends to agree with Kion and goes back to his old ways. But after he gets used by Janja to trap the impalas and helps the Lion Guard chase them off, he decides to use his abilities for good for real.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Tamaa tries to escape by arguing that since Janja has him, he won't need Cheezi and Chungu, though in a rare case them not being foolish, they don't fall for the argument and keep Tamaa prisoner.
