Recap / The Interns S 7 E 8

Go To

Varya has appendicitis, and now in the hospital as a patient herself. But she is extremely afraid of doctors, and only calms down when Bykov promises her a double dose of narcosis. Operation goes good, and anaesthetist David seems to be a nice guy... but Lyuba thinks that he is a pervert who seduces his patients and, worse, collects their nude photos. Varya now needs to check wether it's true, for which she needs to check David's phone. She asks Phil for help, but Phil acts so blatantly that David now thinks it's Phil who is a creep here, and warns Bykov. Phil, meanwhile, considers David's reaction to be a confirmation of his guilt. But now Varya needs him to steal David's phone. Phil gets busted during act, and, when cornered by both David and Bykov, decides to just destroy the phone as a last resort. Only then he learns that Lyuba's rumours once again are... just rumours.

Meanwhile, Kupitman's latest (ex)wife is here, because she wants "her" part of "their" apartment back (they paid for it together long time ago). Kupitman decides to lay low and avoid her until she gets bored and leaves. Bykov has a better plan: to feed her with sob story about Kupitman being in irreversible coma. When she asks about apartment, Bykov lies that the interns now lives there. Who? Romanenko and Lobanov... the greatest slobs in the hospital. They decides to trash Kupitman's apartment, or it wouldn't be believable that they really lives here... but it never helps with anything, and Kupitman's plan completely fails. Now, it seems that lawsuit is unavoidable...

This episode provides examples of:

  • Afraid of Doctors: Varya again. Only this time she's afraid of not just dentist, but of an operation which may save her life (she is suspected to have appendicitis). Bykov provides her with a colourful description of possible consequences of her stubbornness.
  • All for Nothing: Kupitman fails to convince his ex-wife to leave him alone, as neither plant to play comatose, nor the plan to put interns into his apartment works; now, lawsuit is inevitable.
  • Collector of the Strange: When Lobanov sees Kupitman's apartment, with weird and expensive stuff like random (some naked) statues and paintings, a globe with hidden stash of booze, walking cane and pink fluffy slippers, he comments on this as them being not in Kupitman's house, but rather in "his head".
  • Covert Pervert: Lyuba is quick to notify Varya about bad traits of her potential new Love Interest, David — specifically, that he is well-known womaniser... and has countless lovers, many of whom he seduced (somehow) with the help of his drugs. He also has a habit of collecting nude photos of his patients. Varya sends Phil to verify this (with Phil acting so blatant, he creeps out David). Fortunately, later it gets proven incorrect.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Gleb and Semyon decides to trash Kupitman's house to make it more believable that they're living there. They fails to take into account that he's a well-known Neat Freak (when sober), so this only makes Kupitman's ex-wife suspect them more.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: The only thing Kupitman manages to say when he witnesses what Gleb and Semyon did to his apartment, is to ask for cognac.
  • Insistent Terminology: It's Kupitman's latest wife, not last one; he plans to marry again some day. note
  • Playing Sick: To avoid his ex-wife, Kupitman pretends to be in coma (the sob cover story provided by Bykov); his apartment (which is a reason why she's here in the first place) is temporarily occupied by Romanenko and Lobanov.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Because Bykov never tells Gleb and Semyon about his cover story for Kupitman, when Kupitman's ex-wife arrives to check them they are forced to improvise and predictably botches it. Then again, Bykov's "cover story" was so absurd, she never trusted it, either.
  • Trash of the Titans: Gleb and Semyon's apartment is filled with some random trash (condoms and empty pizza boxes from Gleb, dirty socks and used cigarettes from Semyon), and they can't decide who must clean this, because each one thinks that the other one must do it. When they tries to "prove" their point, they makes a mess out of on-call room. And then Bykov sends them to Kupitman's apartment. To make it look like they really lives here, and not just arrived to deceive Kupitman's ex-wife, Semyon suggests to make a mess here, too, or it would look suspicious. In fact, it only makes them more suspicious, because Kupitman is a well-known Neat Freak, and them acting like pigs makes it less believable that they're his interns.
