Recap / The Interns S 4 E 5

Go To

After their one night stand, Varya thinks that her relationship with Gleb was restarted... but, unknowingly to her, Gleb thinks that it is just one-time occurrence. Varya learns that both Bykov and Kisegach are aware about this, and decides to confront him about this, thinking it was him who told them. After he manages to explain that he is surprised about them knowing just as her, they confronts them together... which leads to Varya learning that their love is one-sided.

Kupitman needs a new VIP ward for venereology... and isn't subtle in his demands when he tells so to Kisegach. Enraged by this, she decides to take revenge on him... by turning his office into a new ward. Instead of just accepting defeat, Kupitman usurps Bykov's on-call room, forcing Bykov, in turn, to move to Kisegach's office. It works at first, but Bykov, angry at being used like this, sides with Kisegach against Kupitman. Ultimately, they breaks him into surrendering by locking him in the elevator without any light.

Lobanov's patient is a Russian language teacher. Because Lobanov's primitive speech manner can be harmful to somebody of her level, Bykov tasks Semyon with just discharging her from the hospital... but then her students bribes him to postpone this, not wanting to do a test. Unfortunately for Lobanov, Bykov learns about this, so the test would occur right in the hospital — and Lobanov would write it, too. Shocking even Bykov, Lobanov somehow fails it miserably.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Batman Gambit: Why Kupitman give up his office so quickly? Because he already has a plan how to receive both his office and a new VIP ward: he migrates to Bykov's on-call room, forcing Bykov to migrate to Kisegach, and that forces Kisegach to give in to Kupitman's demands just to get rid of Bykov. Unfortunately for Kupitman, Bykov is not amused by his role in this, and cooperates with Kisegach to take revenge on him.
  • Book Dumb: Lobanov's lack of normal education becomes a plot point in his story. And it's not even medicine-related this time; he is just as incompetent when it comes to Russian grammar.
  • Epic Fail: After Bykov punishes Lobanov by forcing him to adhere the Russian grammar test, he manages to receive the worst grade possible. Even Bykov, who had very low opinion about his intellect, gets shocked by this. How bad it is? Lobanov managed to make 23 mistakes in one simple dictation, and thats not counting punctuation. And Lobanov would receive one night shift for each mistake he did...
  • Exact Words: Kupitman demands a new VIP ward for Venereology, despite being perfectly aware that there's no place for it in the hospital. Kisegach's response? Using his office as a VIP ward. Technically, she did provide him with a new ward...
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Kupitman once again tries to use the other people for his schemes; this time, he manipulates Bykov in hope to use him against Kisegach. The plan backfires, because Bykov and Kisegach cooperates against him... by locking him in the elevator without light, until he apologises.
  • Non-Giving-Up School Guy: When Bykov finds out about Lobanov's attempt to sabotage his patient's (Russian language teacher) discharge from the hospital (he was bribed by her students who attempted to avoid the test), he forces those students to adhere this test right in the hospital. And Lobanov, too, as a punishment (he, somehow, manages to fail miserably).
  • Poor Communication Kills: When Varya learns that Bykov (and Kisegach) already knows about her sleeping with Gleb (he only told to Semyon, who actually keeps this secret, just like Varya told to Lyuba), she gets angry and runs to him. Had she stayed for a little longer and listened to them, she had learned why they knows about this (because they actually busted them after the act). Though she does believe him when he tells her that he is just as surprised about them knowing everything as she is. After that, they confronts them together... and then Varya learns that Gleb does not consider this to be their relationship's resurrection.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Instead of just accepting his defeat when Kisegach answers to his demand for a new VIP ward with using his office as one, Kupitman decides to migrate to Bykov's on-call room. Bykov quickly grows tired of him storing his booze everywhere, using his laptop and examining his patients right here, and goes to Kisegach's office to ask her give up to Kupitman's demands. After she refuses, Bykov decides to migrate into her office, which finally forces her to accept Kupitman's demands. Just as Kupitman planned.
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Gleb spent so much time on attempts to make Varya love him before he finally succeeded, only for them to break up later. Now, Varya decides to resurrect their relationship... but Gleb doesn't.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Kupitman is revealed to be claustrophobic. Bykov and Kisegach uses this to pay revenge on him, by locking him in the elevator (in utter darkness) until he apologises for acting like a selfish jerk.
