Recap / The Interns S 4 E 6

Go To

Lobanov moves to Romanenko, but Gleb is not sure wether this is a good idea: Semyon can make a mess from his apartment. Except... he doesn't, and in fact, he cleans it up all by himself and even cooks a delicious dinner. Unfortunately, Gleb takes advantage of this, which quickly results in Semyon getting tired of him. Semyon confronts Gleb and tells him that from now on, they would divide housework 50/50, and since Semyon already did his part, he leaved rest for Gleb, including food.

Kupitman claims to have a new woman who "would never leave [him]", but refuses to tell who she is, so Bykov now must find out by himself... and ruin everything before it's too late, because if Kupitman gets married (and then divorced) for the fourth time, it can be fatal for him, given his reaction to first three times. But when he actually proceeds with the plan, turns out that this "woman" is... Kupitman's mother, who doesn't like her son's friend who acts like this. Then she learns about his divorces...

Varya's patient wants a separate ward, because her seaman husband returns from a long voyage, and she needs a private place for... you know what. This is very important, since sex-hungry seamen are like animals: will jump on anything even vaguely female, so she must guarantee that the first woman he can find would be her. Varya asks Bykov to leave her on a night shift, so she can organise everything for them in on-call room, but they leaves condoms behind, which Bykov immediately notices the very next day, mistakes for belonging to Varya and punishes her with another night shift. They makes the second attempt, and even manages to cover their tracks... but thanks to Lyuba, Bykov finds out anyway, forcing Varya to finally admit the truth.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bad Liar: Kupitman's attempt to lie to Bykov that he broke up with his "woman" completely fails, because he acts too calm to be believable (he previously constantly claimed that "this woman will never, ever leave him"), and because he is completely sober, which is exactly opposite to like he acted after three previous divorces.
  • Cassandra Truth: Lyuba and Galya don't believe that it was not Varya who slept with this seaman in the on-call room. Bykov doesn't believe at first too, until she reveals the whole plan (it was her organising privacy for her patient, said seaman's wife)... which gets her punished by a whole week of night shifts.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Whoever Kupitman's new woman is, Bykov considers that it would be for the best to break their relationship now, before it could results in marriage. Why? Because Kupitman was already married three times before, every single time resulting in divorce, depression and long and ugly alcoholic binge, which he barely survived. Bykov can't risk this happening for a fourth time. Kisegach disagrees with him, and decides to warn Kupitman... only to learn that Kupitman's "woman" is his mother. In the end, when Kupitman (who was warned by Kisegach) attempts to tell Bykov to leave him alone, Bykov just tells him his motifs outright, and decides to use his phone to tell his "woman" to leave Ivan alone, by badmouthing him to her (ignoring Kupitman's protests).
  • Exact Words: Kupitman only tells about "woman in his life" (and without word "new", too). Woman in question is his mother, not his new girlfriend. But he has very good reason for not telling the truth to Bykov.
  • Hidden Depths: To everyone's surprise, Lobanov not only doesn't create a mess in Gleb's apartment (in fact, he cleaned it up all by himself), he also gets revealed as a good cook. Unfortunately, Gleb decides to take advantage of this, even joking that Semyon acts just like his second mom, to Lobanov's annoyance; he even tells to Lyuba, whose attempts to joke about this acts as the Last Straw for Semyon, who decides to confront Gleb about this.
  • Horny Sailors: Varya's patient wants a private ward, because her husband (a seaman, who just returned from a long voyage) can (and would, if she wouldn't act) just have sex with the first woman he can find, just because he is that desperate, so she must become that "first woman" herself. Varya agrees to help her (by asking Bykov to leave her on a night shift, and then organising everything for the patient and her husband "meeting" in on-call room), but then Bykov finds Varya's patient's condoms, and now thinks that they belongs to Varya. He, of course, punishes her by a second night shift, leading to the patient asking Varya for favour once again; on her second night, the patient manages to hide condoms... but Galya overhears them (and even busts that seaman in only his undies) and tells Lyuba. Unfortunately, Lyuba decides to tell Varya about this exactly in time for Bykov to overhear them. This time, Varya just explains everything to Bykov and Kisegach.
  • Jewish Mother: Kupitman's mother tries to control his every step. For this very reason, he hides details about his personal life from her (she doesn't even knows about his previous marriages and divorces... well, she didn't until Bykov told her about them).
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Bykov finds Kupitman clean, sober and without any trace of alcohol smell, he instantly notices that something changed. The "change" in question is Kupitman finding a new woman. Bykov considers this to be a bad thing, because Kupitman already survived three divorces in the past, all of them resulting in him almost killing himself with alcohol, and it seems dubious that a fourth attempt will end differently. Bykov decides to break their relationship before it goes too far, kickstarting their plot.
  • Taking Advantage of Generosity: When Lobanov starts cleaning the house for both himself and Gleb, and even cooking delicious dinners, Gleb quickly becomes lazy, and even jokes that Semyon is like his "second mom". Unfortunately for him, Lobanov is not that kind of person who would tolerate this for long. When Lyuba's (whom Gleb informed about this) joke proves to be the Last Straw for Semyon, Semyon confronts Gleb and tells him that from this point on, they would divide housework 50/50. He also limits booze for weekends only.
