Recap / The Inbetweeners S 2 E 4 A Night Out In London

Go To

In a desperate attempt at reinvention, Will decides that the lads should be cool, and become `the boys who go to clubs'. Simon is not so sure, but when Carli thinks it's cool he immediately changes his mind.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Apologises a Lot: This is a source of mockery for Simon, who has to apologise profusely to two angry Londoners after Jay's drive-by shouting of "Bus wankers!" doesn't go down very well.
  • Buses Are for Freaks: Or so Jay believes when he gets access to a car. While driving on the main road, he cannot resist leaning out of the car window and yelling "BUS WANKERS!" at people waiting for the bus. However when he does this a second time once the lads reach the city, they can go no further before being caught in standing traffic. A rather large man who had been in the bus queue strolls unhurriedly down the street to point out he isn't greatly impressed.
  • Carload of Cool Kids: The lads, whilst driving down the street, come to grief after Jay shouts "Bus Wankers!" at a waiting queue - then realize it's vitally important to have an escape route as they grind to a halt in a traffic jam. Thus enabling a very large and aggressive 'bus wanker' to catch up with them and express his displeasure.
  • Caught with Your Pants Down: Jay's mother and Neil walk in on him while he's trying to do it with a numb arm. His visitors completely ignore his yells about being busy, and he flails around uselessly trying to turn off the porn on the computer but can't because of the arm.
  • Coolest Club Ever: The lads travel up to London to attend one of these, hoping it will impress some girls they know. Naturally everything that could possibly go wrong, does.
  • Don't Explain the Joke: Lampshaded:
Neil: She touched her hair. In body language-speak, that means she likes you.
Jay: Well, in London, there'll be plenty of girls touching their hair around me.
    Will: Their pubic hair, presumably.
Jay: No, their actual... long... yeah, their pubic hair.
  • Doomed New Clothes: Simon wears brand new trainers to a club but ends up having to loan them to a homeless person. When he gets them back, they're filthy.
  • Hong Kong Dub: The guy who throttles Simon has clearly had his dialogue dubbed over. The acoustics of his dialogue don't match the rest of the characters, and he speaks without moving his mouth.
  • Jar Potty: During the lads' trip to London, Neil uses a beer can to urinate in, sticking his penis right in. Unfortunately, he ends up cutting his helmet on the ring, leaving him spending the rest of the episode complaining about how much it stings.
  • Miles Gloriosus: Jay yells "Bus Wankers!" at some people at a bus stop. When they get stuck in traffic, and end up trapped on the pavement due to a moment of panic from Simon, Jay becomes a snivelling wreck when a particularly large and angry "bus wanker" threatens Simon. The moment the danger's over, Jay laughs at Simon for being terrified.
  • Mistaken for Masturbating: Neil gets thrown out of a nightclub because he is believed to have been masturbating in the toilets. In fact he had been treating a cut on his penis, caused by urinating into a drinks can earlier. The reason was that he made some moaning sounds which was, of course, due to pain, but this wasn't obvious to the onlookers.
  • Never My Fault: Simon has to borrow filthy shoes from the homeless man after being denied entry to the club with his brand new trainers, after ignoring Will's advice not to wear trainers when going to a club. When he does manage to get in, his excuse of being late to Carli is to state 'Will was being a dick with the bouncer...'. He then blames his failing "date" with Carli on her friend Adam "being there" when in actuality, both of them were put off by the smell on the tramp shoes he was wearing.
  • Violent Glaswegian: The homeless man - while he isn't violent, he speaks with a Scottish accent, and Will claims that he 'really scares' him.
