Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 31 The Many Lives Of Scratch

Go To

Original Air Date: 11/11/23

Geoff brings up his death day before they realize Scratch doesn't have a death day, being unable to recall when that was. So they celebrate an honorary death day for him. Since he can't tell the story of how he died they all invent stories on how they think he died.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button:
    • Sharon impulsively whacks her shoe against the floor because of a centipede infestation.
    • Because Scratch can't remember anything about his previous life (other than the fact that he used to be friends with a girl who shared his love for strawberry soda), he has never been able to have a death day party, thus getting annoyed and grumpier than usual if someone brings up the subject.
  • Black Comedy: The entire song "Happy Happy Death Day". The song, despite a very cheerful melody, is filled with lyrics about all the potential (sometimes funny, sometimes horrifying) ways Scratch might have died, paired with imagery of said potential deaths. It must be seen to believed.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: In Pete's story, he's Scratch's opponent in a boxing match. He looks like his skinny, normal self, until he takes off his shirt to reveal a Heroic Build twice his normal size.
  • Continuity Nod: Darryl brings up Centipede World for his story and Sharon mentions having to deal with the centipede infestation in the basement.
  • Dance-Off: Libby's story ends on a dance battle between Scratch and a pack of werewolves.
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: Libby's story is a mix of several fairy tales all thrown together, such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel. Scratch is disappointed they didn't go into more detail about the gingerbread house.
  • Ghost Amnesia: We are reminded of Scratch being unable to recall anything from when he was alive. Given how it is normal for ghosts to tell the story of how they died on their death day, this is an unusual case.
  • Happily Ever After: A platonic version of it. In Geoff's story, he and Scratch are best friends forever and nobody ever dies, even though this was supposed to be a story about how Scratch died.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: Scratch saying he doesn't have a death day and cannot remember it takes on a whole new meaning once the Grand Finale comes round.
  • Musical Nod: The music used during the dance battle in Libby's story is an instrumental version of "This House is Haunted" from the episode, "Frightmares on Main Street".
  • Shout-Out:
    • Scratch is shown delivering a "DED talk", a Pun on TED talks.
    • Pete's story is clearly based on the show's equivalent of Rocky, which the others call him out on.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: Played for laughs in Darryl's story, he imagines Scratch in Centipede World, with him as a centipede. The story starts off with him saying goodbye to his friends when Sharon's shoe suddenly crushes him as she smacks a real centipede that wandered up from the basement. Darryl rolls with it.
