Go To

Original air date: 4/6/2001 (produced in 2000)

Episode number: 2b

After wishing for and losing a baby dinosaur (which Chester and A.J. think is a chicken in a bad costume), Timmy's fairy-obsessed teacher, Mr. Crocker, asks Timmy to meet his parents about his project. Since Timmy can't use his actual parents, he wishes Cosmo and Wanda were his real parents.

Transparents provides these examples of tropes:

  • All Crimes Are Equal: At the end, Principal Waxelplax gives everyone a week of detention: Timmy for faking his show and tell, Chester and AJ for going into the girl's bathroom, and Crocker for trapping her in a toilet paper cocoon and promising two small boys they could enslave the Earth.
  • Argument of Contradictions: Chester and AJ arguing over who should enter the girls' bathroom.
    Chester: You go in!
AJ: I'm not goin' in, you go in!
  • Aside Glance: AJ does it while lampshading.
  • Ass in a Lion Skin: During the Split-Screen Phone Call, Timmy tells Chester and AJ the "dinosaur" he brought in for show-and-tell was actually his "uncle's dog in a Pollywollyoptasaurus suit." Later on, when Crocker gets hold of the dinosaur, Timmy whispers for Cosmo and Wanda to use their magic when Crocker's not looking to transform the dinosaur into indeed being a dog in a dinosaur suit — Francis's dog Mange, who immediately bites Crocker's leg after his costume slips off.
  • Black Comedy: Crocker's scheme to prove that Cosmo and Wanda are fairies involves sticking them in fully operational electric chairs, stating that "if they survive, they're fairies! If they don't, I have tenure!"
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick:
    • After Crocker gives Cosmo and Wanda coffee:
Crocker: Can I offer you anything with that? Cream, sugar, magic?
Wanda: What was that last one?
    Crocker: ...Sugar.
    • At the end, Waxelplax's reasons for giving detention to Timmy, Chester & AJ, and Crocker. See All Crimes Are Equal above.
  • Brick Joke: One of Crocker's fairy traps is a parking space marked "Fairies". Timmy sees through it and steers Wanda away from it. At the end of the cartoon, Principal Waxelplax accidentally drives into the space and triggers the trap, dropping her through a Trap Door.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Wanda causes a fair amount of property damage before getting to the school.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Wanda, being nearly as much of a Cloudcuckoolander as Cosmo in the earlier episodes, does just as mediocre a job as Cosmo at trying to act like a human.
  • Exact Words: Cosmo falls and says, "Yippee! That hurt!" Timmy explains that people say "Ouch" when they get hurt. Cosmo corrects it to "Yippee! That ouched!"
  • Glad I Thought of It: Cosmo in this episode.
    Cosmo: It was my idea
Wanda: No, it was my idea.
Cosmo: Well, it was my idea to take your idea.
  • Human Shield: Chester uses AJ as one against spitballs.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Principal Waxelplax makes her first appearance cracking jokes at Crocker's expense with Miss Pluckner. When they notice Crocker, they look at him, then go back to laughing at him.
  • Running Gag:
    • Cosmo and Wanda both having trouble trying to act like humans when they are impersonating Timmy's parents (and with Wanda, it's an example of Early-Installment Weirdness).
    • Chester and AJ pulling out a cuckoo clock to chime whenever Mr. Crocker says something crazy. He never realizes who's causing the sound.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Mr. Crocker, one of Timmy's two major villains, has his debut here. He doesn't appear in any of the Season 0 shorts.
  • Split-Screen Phone Call: A three-way one with Timmy, Chester, and AJ.
  • Super Spit: The Pollywollyoptasaurus Timmy wishes up uses spit as a weapon, chewing up paper and sipping milk from an overturned trash can to create spitballs.
  • Take Over the World: Apart from proving he's not crazy, Crocker's other objective to capturing a fairy is to use its magic to create a new world order with him in charge in order to get the respect and admiration he feels he deserves.
  • They Called Me Mad!: Crocker monologues about how he's been called crazy all his life because of his belief in fairies.
  • TV Telephone Etiquette: Timmy is talking on the phone with Chester and AJ (in a three-way split-screen). After the conversation is over he hangs up as does Chester. AJ is still hanging on the line when he realizes the other two hung up. He looks at the camera and asks "Doesn't anyone say goodbye anymore?"
  • Ultimate Job Security: Always applies to Crocker, but here he mentions his tenure is so good he could kill someone and get away with it.
  • We Can Rule Together: Crocker offers Chester and AJ a position of power in his new world order. It doesn't work.
  • We Will Meet Again: Crocker vows that Timmy has only won this round.
  • Whateversaurus: The baby dinosaur Timmy wishes up is a Pollywollyoptasaurus.
