Original air date: 3/30/2001 (produced in 2000)

Episode number: 1a

In the first proper episode of The Fairly OddParents!, Timmy wishes he was an adult, but ends up getting mistaken for a pervert by Vicky, is forced to live on the street, and risks losing his fairy godparents.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Pervert: When adult Timmy hugs Vicky, Vicky mistakes him for a pervert and beats him up. This also results in the police arresting him and throwing him in jail.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Vicky is genuinely concerned for Timmy's well being when the latter has seemingly vanished. Granted, it's because she would be the one in trouble if something happened to him, but it's still incredibly surreal considering she would make legitimate attempts on his life in later seasons.
  • Growing Up Sucks: This episode reveals that Timmy will lose Cosmo and Wanda as an adult.
  • Heroic BSoD: Timmy breaks down when the Fairy Bellboy appears for the last time and threatens to take Cosmo and Wanda away, leaving Timmy to wish he had his youth back.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Vicky sends Timmy to bed early when it's only 6:04...all because it's 9:04 on the east coast.
Cosmo: [one minute goes by on the clock] Now it's 9:05 on the east coast!
  • I Want My Mommy!:
    • Timmy manages to become childlike enough at the end when he breaks down and starts crying for his parents.
    • After Timmy, as a kid again, is escorted out of jail, the tough burly prisoners see this and all begin sobbing "We want our mommies and daddies too!"
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Vicky was only concerned about losing Timmy not for his safety, but because it's her career on the line.
  • Karma Houdini: Vicky receives little to no repercussions for kicking (adult) Timmy out of his own house and beating him up repeatedly.
  • Loophole Abuse: In order to get back to normal, Timmy came up with idea that maybe Cosmo and Wanda could grant his wish if he acted like a kid at heart. There was nothing in Da Rules against it, so they were allowed.
Cosmo: I smell loophole! We'll discuss it at the next fairies' convention!
  • One Phone Call: Timmy eventually gets himself arrested and uses his phone call to ask for his parents' help but they wouldn't believe it was him, because they thought Vicky took him to school.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Timmy gets disgusted when he sees his parents making out.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Vicky is horrified when Timmy seemingly disappears because she could get in trouble for losing him.
Vicky: Something could've happened to him! Or worse! Something could happen to me because something happened to him!
  • Running Gag: Whenever Vicky's name is spoken, plants will die, or animals will faint, or something fragile will spontaneously break.
    • Whenever adult!Timmy does a childlike mannerism someone calls it creepy.
  • The Scottish Trope: To emphasize how horrible she is, bad things happen whenever Vicky's name is spoken.
  • Solid Cartoon Facial Stubble: Timmy, prior to wishing he was an adult, fantasizes being a muscular, clean shaven man, only to instead be mildly overweight, bald and with solid gray stubble on the bottom half of his face.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Timmy eats at a restaurant and is surprised at the bill, saying "This is more than I get for my allowance- I mean, more than I make in a month!" Cut to him washing dishes in the back (after he insults the waiter by implying that he never graduated college).
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: One of the things that makes Timmy want to be an adult is that he thinks he can stand up to Francis, who's a preteen. But when an adult Timmy flicks Francis' nose he gets arrested by the police for harassing a minor.
  • Unseen No More: While the Oh Yeah! Cartoons shorts kept Mr. and Mrs. Turner’s faces out of frame, we finally see them here.
  • Working Off the Debt: Timmy has to in order to pay for his expensive dinner.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Timmy attempts to get back at Francis for bullying Chester and AJ with his new adult size. Francis pretends to cry in front of two passing police officers to get them to chase after Timmy, thinking he's a child abuser.

It's a show about nothing!

Cosmo parodies Seinfeld.
