Recap / The Casagrandes S 2 E 16 Lalo Land Maybe Sitter

Go To

Lalo Land: The Casagrandes prepare Lalo for his big audition to be Phoebe Powers' new canine sidekick.

Maybe-Sitter: With the adults out for the night, Bobby and Carlota take turns watching the kids – and going to a party!

"Lalo Land" provides examples of:

  • Crying Critters: When Ronnie Anne, Carl, and CJ are training Lalo to express emotions on cue, Lalo is told to think of a time when he was very sad. We are then treated to a flashback where Lalo was a puppy. He lost his favorite toy and that made him cry Ocular Gushers. Cut back to the present, and we see that Lalo has flooded the apartment with his tears.

"Maybe-Sitter" provides examples of:

  • Ageless Birthday Episode: This episode centers around Par's birthday party. However, Par's age remains unknown.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Bobby wearing a cat onesie in the start of this episode suggests that he either got over his dislike for cats as a result of the hypnosis in "What's Love Gato Do With It?" or was simply trying to be popular.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Bobby brings up his friendship with Par from "Never-Friending Story."
    • The plane outside the hangar resembles the self-flying plane Carl, CJ, and Carlitos sneak on to in "Flight Plan".
  • Crazy-Prepared: Apparently, Carlota came in a sporty orange jumpsuit underneath a light blue prom dress.
  • Grounded Forever: Upon learning that Abuelo and Abuela are coming home early, Bobby and Carlota fear being grounded for life.
Bobby: And I was planning to live a long time!
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: Carlota comes up with a compromise that they take 30-minute shifts and she goes first. Bobby isn't having any of it, so she tells Bobby to stay home while she attends the party. Bobby agrees and Carlota says she'll be back in 30 minutes. Bobby then notices his mistake.
  • Heads, Tails, Edge: Bobby and Carlota flip a quarter to decide who attends the party and who stays home to babysit. It lands on the edge the first time, the second time it bounces around, and the third time, it gets lodged between Carlitos' buttocks.
Carlota: There is something seriously wrong with that coin.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Rosa scolds Hector for eating a torta in his formal suit. Hector points out he's not a baby and knows how to eat, takes a bite splattering sauce onto his clothes and whines about his shirt getting ruined.
  • Manchild: It is implied that Bobby has a collection of animal pajamas, including cat pajamas and even unicorn pajamas, which Hector wears instead of a formal suit.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Upon finding each other at Par's party at the same time, Bobby and Carlota feel sorry for leaving CJ, Carl, and Carlitos home alone.
  • Noodle Incident: One time, Bobby showed up very late for one of Par's parties, and Par didn't speak to him for a week.
  • Out of Focus: Ronnie Anne spends the whole episode in her room writing and listening to music on her headphones. Only asking if she missed anything at the end.
  • Two-Timer Date: Bobby and Carlota have to take shifts babysitting the kids and going to Par's birthday party.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: The "Dizzy Carl" scene ends with Carl throwing up all over Bobby's cat pajamas. As expected, it makes Bobby sick.
