"Chancla Force" contains examples of:

  • All Just a Dream: By the end of the episode, the chaos escalation as result of Carl's bad decisions turned out to be an Opinion-Changing Dream.
  • Crazy-Prepared: This episode reveals the Rosa wears her chanclas in her sleep.
  • Foreshadowing: The fact that the ensuing chaos was All Just a Dream is made clear when Lalo takes the chanclas. It is established that Carl hid the chanclas in a secret compartment without having his brothers and pets seeing where he hid them. Therefore, there's no possible way Lalo had known where Carl hid the chanclas unless he dreamt of a worst-case scenario where Lalo had known where he hid them.
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: It is revealed that Carl hates asparagus, and so he tries to make it bearable by having his pet bird Sergio dump chocolate sauce and sprinkles on it. This plan is thwarted when Abuela Rosa pelts Sergio with her chancla.
  • Loose Floorboard Hiding Spot: Rosa tosses her chanclas at anyone who doesn't obey her rules, so Carl sneaks into her bedroom in the middle of the night and hides them under a loose floorboard in his bedroom, as several other hiding places were taken by his halloween candy, hair gel, and cash. The next morning, Rosa is unable to stop her family from doing what they want without her chanclas. At first, Carl enjoys this, but things soon begin to spiral out of control, as Carl has his favorite things taken by the rest of his family and nobody is doing their chores. When he tries to make things right by returning the chanclas, Lalo finds them and Sergio blends them. At the end of the episode, the chaos escalation as a result of Carl's bad decisions turns out to be an Opinion-Changing Dream, and Carl returns the chanclas to Rosa the next morning.
  • Not So Above It All: When Carl, CJ, Carlitos, and the pets swipe Rosa's chanclas, Maria starts to take advantage of her nephews' newfound freedom, as do Hector, Carlos, Frida, and Carlota.
  • Shoe Slap: Rosa controls her children and grandchildren by threatening to hit them with sandals if they disobey.
  • Shout-Out: The title card is a mock-up of the poster for the original Star Wars, with the title being written in the logo's iconic font.
  • Stock "Yuck!": Carl and CJ hate asparagus. Their attempt to make it more palatable by covering it in chocolate sauce and sprinkles ends in Rosa slapping it away with her chancla.
  • Toilet Humor: When Carl looks for his El Falcon action figure in his pile of unlaundered clothes, he finds Carlitos' dirty diaper instead and is disgusted by it.

"Fluff Love" contains examples of:

  • Artistic License: Claw machines. In real life a claw machine would not be able to support/pick up a living baby.
  • Brainy Baby: The premise of this episode is that Carlitos comes up with a scheme to get a toy penguin from the claw machine.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Carlitos.
  • Gamer Chick: Frida goes surprisingly wild while playing the Wham-a-Rat game and while playing a VR racing game with Carlos, CJ, and Carl.
  • Hidden Depths: The beginning of this episode reveals that CJ is a master at the Wham-a-Rat game.
  • Manchild: Vito, of all people, is the one who also wants to get the toy penguin from the claw machine. Turns out, he means to give it to his dogs as a chew toy.
  • Truth in Television: Carlos saying "No one wins those claw games. They're rigged." While not impossible to win, claw machines have a payout rate that the operators adjust by inputting the coin value, value of merchandise, and expected profit into a computer that will cause the machine to adjust the strength of the claw to deliver a prize to the prize chute. This means it will often take many tries, like one in fifteen tries depending on the value of the merchandise in the machine to actually be successful in winning a prize.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Vito thinks nothing of his new teddy bear (actually Carlitos) jumping out of his arms and running away, even having his dogs chase after him.
