Recap / The Americans S4E11 - Dinner for Seven

Go To

Gabriel tells Elizabeth the Centre has turned down her request to handle Young-Hee's husband Don in a different way. She goes to Don, telling him she's pregnant by him, and storms out when Don offers to pay for an abortion. Later, Philip and Gabriel, disguised as Elizabeth's brother and father (along with a woman disguised as her mother), visit Don at work, claiming Elizabeth (or "Betty") has committed suicide, and demanding money for the funeral expenses. While Don gets the money (accompanied by Philip), Gabriel and the other agent copy Don's computer discs and search for the access codes for the pathogens the Centre has been pushing William to get.

After returning from Ethiopia, Pastor Tim apologizes to Elizabeth for Alice confronting her and Philip before. Elizabeth shrugs it off, but seems to want to talk about how disturbed she is at what she's had to do to Young-Hee (without actually talking about it), though she only talks about it in general enough terms Pastor Tim believes she's just going through a general crisis of faith. Also, when Elizabeth invites Pastor Tim and Alice to dinner, any chance of them talking about that goes out the window when Stan comes over unannounced, Henry invites him to the dinner, and Pastor Tim and Alice try to hide their surprise when they learn Stan works for the FBI.

Speaking of Stan, he's still despondent over Gaad's death, but he makes a point of meeting with Oleg to tell him he doesn't plan to blackmail Oleg to get him to turn, because he doesn't want Oleg on his conscience if anything happens to him.

Finally, as Elizabeth and Paige are leaving the church after helping out with the food pantry, two muggers approach them. Elizabeth at first tries to calm the muggers by giving up her wallet, but when the younger mugger turns his attention toward Paige, Elizabeth goes on the offensive. The older mugger comes at Elizabeth with a knife, but Elizabeth deflects the attack and lethally injures him while the younger one flees. As the older mugger bleeds to death, Paige looks in horror, until Elizabeth gets her daughter to leave the scene with her quickly.
