Recap / The A Team S 2 E 18 Its A Desert Out There

Go To

The A-Team gets called in by an elderly couple, Miriam and Max, who were robbed at gunpoint while coming back from a casino. Hannibal suspects that the gang would not have set up such an elaborate operation just to rob tourists, and further investigation proves this guess correct. The team has stumbled onto an operation intended to take out an old member before he can talk to the authorities and put them all behind bars.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: When the Scorpions fall into the trap the A-Team laid for them, Hannibal explicitly mentions their leader punching Max, and punches him in the same place.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Al Driscoll is the former leader of the Scorpions, but is planning on turning state's evidence on them. To prevent this, they're planning on stopping the bus he's taking to L.A. and killing him.
  • Short Cuts Make Long Delays: Lila tells the victims about a "shortcut" that will take an hour off their travel time, and then calls the Scorpions to tell them that somebody's coming. Long story short, the passengers end up delayed, frightened, and minus any cash or other valuables they were carrying.
  • Slipping a Mickey: Lila slips some knockout pills into Face's drink when he comes to the casino to plant the bug. However, Face sees her doing it and only pretends to get knocked out.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Murdock quotes the famous "phone home" line when he talks about aliens giving people telepathy.
    • Murdock sings a bit of "Baby, You're a Rich Man" when he wins a little bit at the casino.
    • Hannibal calls the head of the Scorpions "Darth."
