Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 S 3 E 15 Mission Of Gravity

Go To

Beijing is still afloat above the Earth, and The Shredder wants the Triceraton anti-gravity unit for his plans. But if he rips it out the city, and everyone within it, will plummet to the ground. The Turtles must work with Karai to stop his plans.

This episode provides examples of

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Karai asks Leo if he has the will to abandon his father when he does things that don't go his way.
  • Backstab Backfire: Stockman convinces Hun to try and kill Karai and Chaplin at the cost of the mission. Thanks to the Turtles, they fail, and the Shredder is not amused when the "new blood" makes their report.
  • The Bus Came Back: Professor Honeycutt returns, having uploaded his memory into Don's devices.
  • Call-Back:
    • The episode focuses on Beijing, which was lifted off from the Earth thanks to the Triceratons.
    • Professor Honeycutt made a copy of himself while running away from the Triceratons.
  • Catch a Falling Star: Karai does the falling, Leo does the rescuing.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Donatello packs gliders for all the turtles, despite the fact that getting dropped out of the blimp was not part of the plan
  • Enemy Mine: The turtles and Karai work together to prevent the removal of an anti-gravity machine, left behind by the Triceratons, to save the city of Beijing from crashing down to Earth.
  • Floating Continent: Beijing, China, thanks to the Triceratons.
  • Got Volunteered: Hun and Stockman suffer this fate when it comes to the mission to Beijing.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Downplayed since Karai didn't mean certain events to happen to the turtles and to herself. However, all of them sans Leonardo believe this to be the case and call her out on it.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Surprisingly by Honeycutt. He had to delete his memory on Michelangelo when transferred, calling it unnecessary data.
    • Shredder is exceptionally coldhearted here, casually planning to destroy an entire city of millions just to get at some technology and sending Hun on a Suicide Mission along with Stockman.
  • Mercy Kill: His tone of voice and somewhat sinister expression make it look like Chaplin is about to do this to a terrified Stockman before he gives him a new body instead.
  • Militaries Are Useless: The police and/or soldiers of Beijing quickly scatter in the face of the Mouser 2.0's.
  • Never Say "Die": Surprisingly subverted in this one-off episode, substituting the normally used "destroy" for "kill," "perish," and "dead."
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: After Honeycutt lands Beijing back on Earth, Donnie notes that the Imperial City is to the south, while Mikey notes that the sun is rising in the west (both of which are the opposite of how it should be), causing the former to sheepishly admit he returned the city the wrong way around.
  • Oh, Crap!: As usual, Stockman gets this after crossing Shredder at the end, but this time Hun is right there beside him, backing up with wide eyes and screaming with him.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Stockman and Hun both get moments. Stockman, when unimpressed with Chaplin's new invention, asks what pea-brain authorized it, at which point Shredder tersely says he does. Hun's moment comes seconds later when he says that he supports the Shredder's plan to grab the Beijing gravity generator 100%, only to be told that he'll be accompanying Stockman on this very dangerous mission.
  • Pet the Dog: Chaplin is taking part in an operation likely to kill the population of Beijing, but does bother to give Dr. Stockman an upgraded new robot body.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: In addition to Stockman and Chaplin, the head scientist working on trying to get the gravity projector to bring Beijing back down is bespectacled.
  • The Starscream: Subverted. At first, Chaplin seems about to kill Stockman. Then, it's revealed that he was just placing the latter's brain into a new body.
  • Suicide Mission: Stockman notes that going to get the generator from Beijing has a lot of danger.
  • Superior Successor: Chaplin's Mouser 2.0's seem to be an improvement to the original ones, albeit less easily mass produced.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Within seconds of getting his new body, which he is very happy with, Stockman is manipulating Chaplin into the Suicide Mission.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Chaplin's Mouser 2.0's get fried with an EMP after about five minutes of screen time and never show up again in the series.
