Tropes

  • Art Shift: The entire show now has a much darker colour palette. The Turtles themselves have start to look closer to their 1990 live action movie counterparts (and a little bit like their Mirage comics counterparts). April also has blue eyes now, instead of her regular black eyes.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Splinter manages to infiltrate the Channel 6 News building and break out April and her co-workers being held hostage before the explosion. Despite the fact the doors were held by a twisted pipe, Splinter managed to break it with a karate chop (something he's never tried breaking with his bare hands before).
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The crime boss the Turtles apprehend in the beginning of the episode returns in "Havoc in the Streets", where he gets mutated into an Energy Being called Synapse.
  • Darker and Edgier: This episode is the start of the darker and edgier Red Sky episodes.
  • Genius Bruiser: The Shredder is surprisingly good at mixing chemicals and preparing explosives out of them.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Had Raphael not remarked that the Shredder was bluffing, he probably wouldn't have detonated the explosives in the Channel 6 building, since it was still standing when the Turtles returned with Krang after rescuing him from hostage, despite missing Shredder's imposed deadline.
  • Nothing Personal: This is Krang's Bait-and-Switch response to him destroying Drakus' world, before invoking You Have Outlived Your Usefulness.
  • Parenthetical Swearing: Leonardo's reaction to the Shredder destroying the Channel 6 building is to snarl "You miserable maggot!" in a manner that almost sounds like "You son of a bitch!"
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Thinking that April and Irma were still inside the Channel 6 building when Shredder blew it up, the Turtles delivered a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown to him, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady.
  • That Man Is Dead: Drakus now identifies as Berserko.
Berserko: I am Drakus no more! After you blasted me out of Dimension X, I took on a new name: Berserko! And a new mission: Revenge!
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: While Burne was already a Jerkass, he becomes even more of one here, wrongfully blaming the Turtles on the destruction of the Channel 6 building, even though he knows Shredder was the one who blew it up, if his remark that every time he causes trouble its because of them has anything to go. Over the next few episodes (until his sudden disappearance) he has a smear campaign against the Turtles.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: After the Turtles apprehend Berserko, Burne blames them for the Channel 6 building's destruction, claiming that Shredder (who was the one who blew it up) only commits his acts of terrorism because of the Turtles, when really it's the other way around.
  • Wham Episode: The first of the Red Sky episodes. Also, Shredder blows up the Channel 6 building, showing the viewers that this is not the same light-hearted show as before.
  • Wham Line: "I NEVER bluff!" Following this, Shredder blows up the Channel 6 building.
