Another detainment of Jacknife fails when a boulder is hurled at Jailbot, causing the two to crash in one of the strange "Outer Worlds" on the way to the jail. The Warden must try to make do without Jailbot until he's able to return, while Alice and Jared start a betting service over whether Jailbot or Jacknife will win. At the same time, Jailbot and Jacknife have to try to survive the strange creatures and deathtraps until they can find a way back.
"Best Friends Forever" contains examples of:
- A Day in the Limelight: While the Warden, inmates, and staff still get their own screentime, Jailbot and Jacknife are the main focus of the plot here.
- Butt-Monkey: The Warden goes through several Amusing Injuries to the point that he gets a massive Sanity Slippage.
- Censor Box: On Jacknife's photo that he shows to Jailbot. It's uncensored on the DVD, marking the rare time that nipples on breasts have been drawn and allowed to remain to some extent.
- Continuity Nod: A few references to the "Time-Police" two-parter are shown on the cameras in the surveillance room. The Time Police themselves appear on a screen, along with the factory scene in the first part and then the cave painting of Alice from the legend of "Su'jael" (firing her breast missiles).
- The bottom of the elevator shaft and the furnace seem to be the furnace room for "Mr. Grumpy-Pants", or referenced from it.
- The two gay inmates, the Middle-Eastern inmate, and the goateed ringleader inmate from "Superbar" return, now in larger roles. The first two will receive their official names in a few episodes, while the other two have the script names of "Turban" and "Nicky". Gary's perverted cellmate is also back among the recurring inmates, with the script name "Fatty" (although it won't be shown on screen until season 3).
- The balding unibrowed inmate from "Superbar" (who Nicky glimpsed among others in a "Twister"-themed orgy) is shown amongst the inmates playing betting games in the surveillance room.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: The above television screens. If you glimpse at them further, you can see that the animators slipped in McDonalds characters (Mayor McCheese, Grimace, and The Hamburglar) as inmates on to one screen, a screen showing Ash, one with Janice, and one screen with one of the Twins waving at the audience.
- An inmate resembling Wolverine is shown in a later crowd shot of the inmates.
- When the Warden is angry about Jailbot not being there when he wakes up, his face becomes that of the Inner Child (from "Mr. Grumpy Pants") for a few frames, complete with the pointed ears and fangs.
- One of Jailbot's orders that the Warden has on his list is to "tune up the shower cams". Someone likes their voyeurism.
- One of the Latino inmate gang members is a recolored version of the black bored inmate, who's given a mustache and has his "DIE!" forehead tattoo translated to be "MUERTE!".
- The robotic fist launched from Jailbot's control room winds up destroying a spaceship. Pausing the frames will show a Grey alien falling along with the wreckage.
- Funny Background Event: A few happen when the inmates are all betting on Jailbot. One inmate can be seen making really stretchy, exaggerated expressions to the point where his head practically turns inside out. Another inmate is busy lighting his fart on fire and being cheered on by his buddies.
- Just before the Warden goes to repair the elevator, an orange sphinx creature with breasts can be seen flying and chasing after some birds.
- After the power comes back on and Jared orders the inmates to place their bets, watch the surveillance screens behind him very closely. One features an inmate falling from his cell bunk and smashing his skull on the floor, while the other features another man murdering his cellmate.
- Humiliation Conga: For the Warden.
- Idiot Ball: The Warden carries it throughout the episode, as it's revealed that without Jailbot to assist him and perform everyday tasks, he'll forget even the most simple things like urinating or shaving.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: This probably Jacknife's most humanizing episode.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Fatty winds up having his head smashed into a bloody mess on the floor by Alice, which also kills the racing frogs that he was betting on.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Jared is rescued by Jailbot and then given Jacknife's lottery ticket, but Nicky quickly comes up with a bet card detailing the episode's plot twist and confiscates Jared's ticket.
