Tropes

  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Toyman II, having uploaded himself into the DEO's servers, takes control of the building.
  • Animated Armor: Toyman II hacks into two Lexosuits.
  • Atrocious Alias: After initially defending it, Winn admits he hates his "Computer Lad" moniker. Which is why he takes up the "Toyman" name.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Kara and Alex, when fighting off the flying monkeys.
  • Blatant Lies: After years of abuse and bearing witness to his father's crimes, Winn doesn't believe his father for a second when Toyman I claims to have changed. Sure enough, Schott Sr. was lying.
  • Brain Uploading: Both Toymen did this, copying their minds into a digital form. Lex wants their technology in order to do the same, allegedly to fight Leviathan, though Brainy figures he just wants immortality.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Kara tells William that she isn't interested in him to not get him sucked into her crazy life.
  • The Bus Came Back: Toyman I reappears.
  • But Now I Must Go: Winn leaves for the future after his doppelganger is stopped.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The DEO has an old-fashioned landline to Lex's office, just in case their digital technology is all compromised.
  • Cyberspace: Winn enters it to stop his evil doppelganger.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The post-Crisis, Luthor-run DEO doesn't have any anti-Kryptonite countermeasures, meaning that the Kryptonite-based security measures prevent Supergirl from doing more to fix the current crisis.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: How Toyman II announces his comeback.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • The original Toyman is a psychotic murderer, but even he's horrified by the scope of what his son's doppelganger is planning.
    • Lena is offended when Lex congratulates her for conning Andrea for her own gain, arguing that she's doing it for the good of humanity.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Brainy is once again reminded on what a dangerous game he is playing with Lex, who engineered Toyman II's return to get his technology and who also threatens to kill Alex if she doesn't back off.
  • Evil Mentor: Gamemnae has been this for Andrea since High School.
  • False Friend: Lena continues to fool Andrea into thinking that they are friends again so she can obtain her technology.
  • Foreshadowing: Considering Winn has some knowledge of the future, his advice to Kara to give Lena time and encouraging her to consider romance with William may well be this.
  • Hidden Depths: William is a pretty good singer, doing a rendition of Toto's “Africa” alongside Kara.
  • I Choose to Stay: Brainy chooses to stay behind at the DEO when Alex leaves.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Kara lies to William and says that she doesn't have romantic feelings towards him so he doesn't get hurt like Lena was by lies.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Brainy even namedrops it when he gets the attention of the Lexosuits.
  • Mirror Match: Winn engages his evil doppelganger in cyberspace.
  • Moment Killer: Winn bursts in to awkwardly tell Kara that "her grandmother needs her" when William is asking her out.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Winn's Legionnaire codename is "Computer Lad", which could be a reference to another Legion member in the comics, albeit female, Computo.
    • Winn mentions that his brother-in-law came up with his codename. Since he married Ayla Ranzz, it's implied he's referring to Lightning Lad.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The promo for this episode that aired after Part 1 implied that the main plot of the episode would be Kara and William going on a date and included a line from Kara stating "I haven't felt this way in a long time" (presumably about William). However, the romance was actually only a subplot of the episode and Kara's line was either edited out or is from a future episode.
  • Out of Focus: Nia doesn't appear at all, Kelly has about a minute of screentime and even Lena seems to have been reduced from primary antagonist to being Lex's lackey.
  • Pet the Dog: Subverted. Lex pretends to care for Lena's state of mind, but he just helps her so that their plan isn't in danger and she sees right through it.
  • Rank Up: After Alex quits, Lex promotes Brainy to be the new Director of the DEO.
  • Redeeming Replacement: At the end of the episode, Winn takes on the name Toyman in order to do something good with it.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Winns's father holds off Toyman long enough for Winn to upload the countermeasure, which deletes both of them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Alex quits the DEO to go work with J'onn, being unable to keep working under Lex.
  • Sequel Hook: The episode ends with Mr. Mxyzptlk showing up on Kara's doorstep.
  • Shame If Something Happened: Lex warns Brainy to do something about Alex sniffing about, or else he will find a permanent solution.
  • Shipper on Deck: Winn encourages Kara to date William.
  • Shout-Out: Winn recites a line from Back to the Future Part III’s final scene, which Kara recognizes immediately as Doc Brown’s.
  • So Proud of You:
    • Winn recalls that when he came up with the idea of digital uploading, he saw a glint in his father's eye that he thought was pride. He later realised it was just greed. Schott Sr. later expresses genuine pride in his son after seeing all of the good that Winn accomplished while working with the DEO.
    • Lex later says this to Lena after she further manipulated Andrea.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Brainy is visibly struggling to repress his distaste for working with Lex in every scene they have together.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Lex expresses some concern for Lena's emotional state, albeit for reasons that, naturally, relate back to what he wants.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Winn was actually the one who came up with his dad's code to digitalize himself.
  • Unwitting Pawn: When all is said and done, Gamemnae notes that the Luthors are right where Leviathan wants them, implying that Lex is once again unwittingly serving their goals. Of course, she doesn't know that Lex knows who she really is, so it might backfire.
  • We Can Rule Together: What Lex essentially proposes to Gamemnae aka Gemma Cooper.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Alex towards Brainy, when she sees that he has been into her system and removed the spyware she was using on Lex. He defends himself as he wanted to protect her from Lex.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Alex leaves, Lex appoints Brainy as the new director of the DEO.
