Go To

Airdate: Tuesday, June 5, 2007 (strongbad_email.exe, Disc 5)

Sender: Joy, Mesa AZ

Strong Bad: (singing) Robot jokes, robot jokes, there are no robot jokes in this email.

Joy from Mesa, Arizona asks Strong Bad whatever happened to that heavy Mexican accent he used to have, adding that it made him sound "very exotic and hot". Strong Bad denies this, stating that his old accent is still there, and still awesome.

Strong Bad decides to make sure by comparing his accent from a few years ago to his accent just a few seconds ago. Realizing that his accent has indeed changed, Strong Bad justifies this by stating it's because he's "gotten more worldly and streetwise", and still makes him charming nonetheless.

Strong Sad intervenes, having done some theorizing on the state of Strong Bad's accent and the way it's been disappearing:

Strong Sad: (wearing glasses and holding a clipboard) According to my projections, at the rate your accent is changing now, in five years, you'll sound like this: (activates a projector, which transitions to a new scene)
Future!Strong Bad: (sitting at the Zappy XT6; a futuristic, holographic computer. speaking in a less gruff, less gravelly, more dull version of his accent) Oh, hey all of you guys. I'm a Strong Bad. Holy crap, I am so great.

Strong Bad, horrified by the prospect of losing his "gruff charms and gravelly demeanors" (and also briefly distracted by his soon-to-be computer), decides to try and save his weird accent before such a fate befalls it. Fortunately, Strong Sad has called in a specialist to help his brother restore his accent to the way it was. And by "specialist", he means Coach Z.

Coach Z: Hey there, Spring Board! I'm here to help yous with your orccent!
Strong Bad: Oh, boy. This is gonna be good.

First, Coach Z has Strong Bad figure out what makes his accent unique, and then "exorggerate the BEHOOZITS out of it". Next, he has Strong Bad hung upside-down from a tree, and practices talking. If he messes up, Strong Mad punches him. Coach Z then has Strong Bad rub sandpaper on his throat, stating that no one will bug him about his accent, with the downside that he won't be able to eat solid foods for a few months. After what we can assume is a long and arduous process, Strong Bad has his accent... somewhat back to the way it used to be.

Coach Z: (to Strong Bad, who has a towel over his head, muttering things in the accent, and dancing around and punching air like a boxer ready to fight) Yeah, you've come a long way, Strong Bo. Your accent's as fit as a wagon fulla florpjacks. Now get in there and end this sbemail!
Strong Bad: (gives off a yell and leaps onto his stool. speaking in a poor version of his old accent) Okay, all joo ediots! I don't wanna hear anudda freakin' word about my accent. Joo ga daaaat? So until next time, Holy crop!

Tropes:

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Strong Sad shows a video predicting what Strong Bad's voice will sound like in a few years, he's understandably freaked out, but is then distracted by the prospect of having a "floating computer" in the near future.
  • Continuity Nod: Strong Bad uses a clip from "some kinda robot" to test if his accent has changed.
  • On the Next: The short ends with an announcer saying, "Next week on Strong Bad Email..." We then see that Strong Bad's accent had relapsed back to the way it was before the training, until Strong Mad punches him again.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: This sbemail revolves around how Strong Bad's accent drifted away from his old Mexican accent to a more American accent. Strong Sad projects that in five years, his accent will completely disappear, so Strong Bad trains with Coach Z to fix up his accent again before that can happen.
  • Sidetracked by the Analogy: From this exchange at the start of Strong Bad's vocal Training Montage.
Coach Z: First, we gotta find out what makes your accent unique, and then exorgerate the behoozits out of it!
Strong Bad: My accent has behoozits?
  • Typeset in the Future: A Eurostile-like font called Square721 BT is the font used on the Zappy XT6, Strong Bad's computer from "five years in the future".
  • Vocal Evolution: The e-mail is based around Strong Bad's accent, and how its been lessened over the years.

Announcer: Next week on Strong Bad Email...
Strong Bad: (back in his normal voice) Something something Larry Larry. Holy crap.
Strong Mad: RWAAA! (punches Strong Bad off the stool)
Strong Bad: (weakly, in his old accent) Competition?
(The Paper comes down)
