Pearl invites Bismuth to the roller rink for a lesson on how to forge human relationships.

Tropes:

  • Bowdlerise: The playing of "Can't Hold Me" rather conveniently stops right before some sexually suggestive lyrics ("In a T-shirt, in my satin lingerie\A little lower, little higher, change pace").
  • Comically Missing the Point: Pearl thinks the jingle for a local mechanic is a full fledged radio hit song.
  • Continuity Nod: When trying to socialize with Connie's friends, Steven casually brings up that White Diamond ripped his gem out of his body.
  • Creator Cameo: Animated versions of Ian Jones-Quartey, Kat Morris, Jeff Liu, and Lamar Abrams can be seen in the roller rink.
  • Cringe Comedy: Steven awkwardly brings up White Diamond ripping out his Gem to Connie's human buddies like it's on the same level as getting chewed out by a parent, and the two understandably don't know how to react.
  • Double Date: Connie and Steven go to a roller rink to spend time together, and Pearl brings Bismuth to help her socialize with humans by introducing Bismuth to her friends. Unknown to everyone else, Bismuth actually came as an excuse to be with Pearl.
  • Fish out of Water: Steven flops trying to relate with Connie's school friends in their first impression because his life is so radically different from theirs, having never attended human school and his family troubles being way more intense than the traditional family unit.
  • Freaky Is Cool: Bismuth tells Steven that he may be very different from Connie's friends, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. She's proven right when both are unreservedly impressed on seeing Steven and Connie fuse.
Bismuth: You've got nothing to mope about.
Steven: But her friends think I'm weird.
Bismuth: Of course you're weird! You're a Crystal Gem! Connie knows that. She's always known that! That never stopped you from being friends.
  • Hourglass Plot: When Connie and Steven first met, he was the first person she made friends with because Steven was emotionally unguarded while Connie was too self-conscious to talk to others. Now, Connie has a vibrant social circle, while Steven has become the one so self-conscious he can barely open up to friends, much less people he's never met before.
Steven: Bismuth, I think I've forgotten how to talk to humans.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Pearl's favorite song on the radio is a jingle for a mechanic. Her enthusiasm is so infectious, Bismuth ends up singing along with it.
  • Irony: For thousands of years, Pearl's relationship with Rose involved Pearl pining for Rose while Rose was off fraternizing with others. Now, it's Pearl who does the fraternizing as Bismuth pines for her.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Bismuth claims that she doesn't want to confess her feelings to Pearl and try to go to the next level because Pearl has already come into her own as a sociable free spirit and is happy with what she has now.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Bismuth asks Steven how long he has feelings of being left out while his loved ones are moving on with their life without him, he responds “Two months”. This is the exact amount of time the audience waited for the second part of the epilogue series, since “Prickly Pair”.
  • Magic Pants: Zig-zagged; when Steven and Connie form Stevonnie, Steven's shirt shrinks enough to fit under Connie's (with Connie's shorts presumably under Steven's pants), but they have to switch out two smaller pairs of skates with one larger pair, and Steven and Connie end up in one each when they split apart. Despite the apparently enormous change in shoe size, Connie's socks still fit.
  • Oblivious to Love: Pearl is seemingly unaware that Bismuth's feelings for her have become the more-than-friend type.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Steven is clearly worried that he and Connie will drift apart because they’ve been spending less time together recently and he can’t relate to her human friends. Connie actually notices that something is bothering Steven, and she offers to spend some quality time alone with him. Steven, having made the habit of denying and suppressing his emotions, tells Connie he’s fine and that she should go have fun without him, thus potentially pushing her away even more. Fortunately, Bismuth encourages him to quit doing this, and after finally expressing some of his fears to Connie, the two reaffirm their bond by fusing into Stevonnie.
  • Pun-Based Title: The episode's title is a pun on "business casual" and Bismuth, similar to Bismuth's own puns.
  • Running Gag: Pearl excitedly explains what toilet paper is, and keeps using it as a gift throughout the episode.
  • Social Circle Filler: Pearl's friends and Connie's classmates have some unique designs and voices, but mostly exist to show both of them have social lives apart from Steven.
  • Source Music: Sour Cream plays "You Can't Hold Me" by Emily King on the radio (identifying it by name), then at the skate rink for the contest.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Bismuth has visible eyelashes a few times, most obviously in a closeup shot when Pearl's "song" starts playing.
  • Toilet Paper Prank: Mentioned when Pearl hands Bismuth a toilet paper roll, telling her that it can be used for vandalism. It's not clear if she's aware it has any purpose besides that...
  • Unrequited Love Lasts Forever: Bismuth talks as if she's been attracted to Pearl for quite a while, but despite keeping quiet for fear of how it would affect Pearl, she doesn't show any interest in moving on to anyone else.
