Legends of Bikini Bottom: The Curse of the Hex

Original air date: 6/11/2011 (produced in 2010) note

An old hagfish puts a curse on the Krusty Krab.

Tropes:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Mr. Krabs resorts to begging to Madame Hagfish for her to lift the curse over the Krusty Krab. It does work, as she agrees to do so in exchange for bringing back a gold doubloon from the Giant Golden Eel.
  • Broken Record: This happens when SpongeBob starts stuttering on the word "the" during the middle of his sentence. It soon turns into a literal example, as Mr. Krabs lifts him up to reveal a record player skipping inside him.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': SpongeBob tries to sneak out some krabby patties to Madame Hagfish after closing, but Mr. Krabs immediately catches him.
  • Gypsy Curse: Madame Hagfish invokes a lot of Roma stereotypes and curses the Krusty Krab when Krabs refuses to give her a free meal. However, it turns out all she did was place a "Closed" sign outside of the restaurant, as she wasn't going to waste an actual spell on someone like Mr. Krabs.
  • Lamprey Mouth: Madame Hagfish has one at first.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Once it appears that the curse is beginning to take its effect, Squidward immediately leaves the Krusty Krab.
Squidward: I just remembered I have a "no-curse" clause in my contract. Nice working with you.
Mr. Krabs: Squidward, wait! You don't even have a contract.
  • Special Guest: Kristen Wiig as Madame Hagfish.
  • Storybook Opening: The episode opens up with an opening book showing the title card.

Legends of Bikini Bottom: The Main Drain

Original air date: 1/28/2011 (produced in 2010)

SpongeBob and Patrick search for a legendary drain.

Tropes:

  • All Just a Dream: Patrick accidentally pulls the plug to the Main Drain and everyone is sucked down the drain along with the rest of Bikini Bottom... only for the entire episode to be revealed as a story SpongeBob was telling Patrick before he went to bed.
  • …And That Little Girl Was Me: Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob and Patrick about two boys who unclogged the Main Drain many years ago and drained the entire ocean as a result. Right before the two attempt to pull the actual plug themselves, Mr. Krabs and Plankton stop them and reveal that they were the ones who pulled the plug all those years ago. Which actually makes no sense whatsoever, considering that if this was true, then Mr. Krabs and Plankton wouldn't even be there in the present. It's a wonder SpongeBob didn't call them out about this.
  • Fun with Flushing: Sure, SpongeBob and Patrick want to find the Main Drain to make sure nobody unplugs it, but that doesn't stop their curiosity from getting the better of them and putting the entire ocean at risk.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: After Patrick assures SpongeBob that they're not like the kids who pulled the main drain because they're grown-ups, Patrick pulls a baby tooth out of his mouth.
  • Irony: Patrick ends up tripping over a caution sign warning about the slippery floor.
  • Left the Background Music On: Ominous music starts playing as Mr. Krabs tells the story about the Main Drain. However, Mr. Krabs soon tells Patrick to turn off the radio the music's coming from because it's distracting him.
  • Schmuck Bait: SpongeBob and Patrick know that pulling the plug for the Main Drain will destroy Bikini Bottom, but they have to know for sure that they found the right drain and not knowing would be even worse. Thankfully, they're stopped by Krabs and Plankton before they can go through with it, but Patrick pulls the plug by accident anyways.
  • Shout-Out: SpongeBob tying bubbles to Patrick's house so that it'll fly them to their destination is similar to Up.
  • Storybook Opening: The episode opens up with an opening book showing the title card.
  • Unexplained Recovery: According to the story, pulling the plug destroyed Bikini Bottom. Despite this, everyone is still alive, and the town is intact. Not that this is ever addressed.
