Swamp Mates
Original air date: 4/11/2020 (produced in 2018)
Bubble Bass's forced playdate with Patrick leaves them both stranded in a swamp, hunting down one of Bubble Bass's lost action figures.
"Swamp Mates" contains examples of:
- Affectionate Parody: "Pat-Star-Piece Theater" is one of Masterpiece Theater.
- All Just a Dream: Patrick and Bubble Bass's adventure in the swamp turns out to be a dream Bubble Bass has after drowning in swamp water.
- Continuity Nod: The Chief from "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V" returns in this episode.
- CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: Bubble Bass wakes up to find Patrick giving him mouth to mouth.
- Day in the Limelight: For Patrick and Bubble Bass.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Played for Laughs. Bubble Bass may be a self-absorbed jerkass, but he would never steal action figures from another collector.
- Fire-Breathing Diner: Patrick becomes this after eating hot sauce, and Bubble Bass uses it to escape the hillbillies.
- Framing Device: The episode starts with SpongeBob reading Gary a bedtime story.
- Forgotten Framing Device: They don't appear again afterwards, though.
- Fun with Acronyms: Bubble Bass's superhero group is called the Guild Of Obsessive FanS.
- Hollywood Voodoo: Hoodoo Guru the Voodoo Villain's main power. He applies it to a Patrick action figure to control the real Patrick.
- Iris Out: How the episode ends.
- Losing Your Head: Happens to Patrick after eating hot sauce and becoming a Fire-Breathing Diner.
- Medium Blending: One of the books SpongeBob opens reveals a live-action lion's head that growls at him.
- Never Say "Die": Averted. After reviving him, Patrick tells Bubble Bass that he had been dead for ten minutes.
- No Social Skills: Bubble Bass refuses to share his toys just because they’re too precious and collectible.
- Not Hyperbole: The hillbillies say their hot sauce is so hot it will blow the head off anyone who eats it. Sure enough, when Patrick drinks some, his goes flying off as he blows like a whistle.
- Out of Focus: SpongeBob only appears at the beginning to introduce the story, and at the end as an action figure on the Chief's desk.
- Shout-Out: Wonder Whale is a parody of Wonder Woman.
- Title Drop: SpongeBob says the title of the episode, which is also on the book that he reads.
One Trick Sponge
Original air date: 4/11/2020 (produced in 2018)
SpongeBob learns a new card trick and wants to show it to somebody, but nobody seems interested.
"One Trick Sponge" contains examples of:
- Companion Cube: When he can't find anyone to watch his trick, SpongeBob puts faces on some rocks so he'll have someone to show his trick to.
- "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: This episode would've been a lot shorter had SpongeBob just showed his trick to Gary at the beginning.
- Disney Acid Sequence: SpongeBob's magic trick is a homage to the "Pink Elephants" scene from Dumbo.
- Eye Scream: Squidward swallows his own eyeballs as an excuse not to see SpongeBob's trick.
- Losing Your Head: SpongeBob walks into the treedome to find Sandy in her diving suit, but without her head. It reappears and she explains that she is transporting her head to explore another dimension.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Both Squidward and Mrs. Puff attempt to do this when SpongeBob approaches.
- Shout-Out:
- The walking cards are similar to the card army from Alice in Wonderland.
- SpongeBob calls himself "The Great Sponge-Dini".
- As said in the Disney Acid Sequence example above, SpongeBob's magic trick is a nod to the "Pink Elephants" scene from Dumbo.
- Swallow the Key: Squidward swallows his house key after locking SpongeBob inside.
- Synchronous Episodes: The previous episode "Swamp Mates" has a scene with Bubble Bass and Patrick trying to escape from a pack of gators, while this shows Sandy in an alternate dimension investigating the very same swamp, complete with Bubble Bass and Patrick in the background being chased. "Swamp Mates" was a dream that was also in a storybook, so the alternate dimension Sandy was exploring must have been some kind of 'dream' dimension.
