Dread manipulates his crew into seeing Sonic as a traitor, refusing to let him escape with the Prism shard. Dr. Deep and Dr. Done-It exploit the situation to acquire the shard for the Chaos Council, leading to a battle on the high seas.

Tropes

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Dr. Deep's Failed Attempt at Drama elicits a chuckle from Sonic, despite the hedgehog's own perilous position.
  • Apologetic Attacker: While Catfish doesn't apologize verbally for shooting at Sonic, his facial expression says it all. He can barely stand to watch himself pull the trigger.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: The Roses do this while trying to protect the shard from Eggforcers.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Both Sonic and the pirates fail to obtain the shard, which is taken by the Chaos Council to help them quell the rebellion in New Yoke.
  • Big "NO!": Nine lets one out when it seems Sonic is going to give the Chaos Council the shard.
  • Butt-Dialing Mordor: Downplayed, as Shadow isn't evil, just very abrasive. Sonic fails to generate sufficient speed to teleport out of No Place and instead partly opens a portal to the Void, accidentally contacting Shadow, who's more than a little annoyed by Sonic's lack of progress.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Sonic dejectedly asks, "You too, Catfish?" after Catfish blasts the palm tree he was hiding behind.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: Dr. Deep shows off his moves to intimidate Sonic and Dread, which gets him yelled at by Dr. Done-It; Deep promptly turns his back and Dread shoots him down with a lightning bolt, to Sonic's amusement.
Dr. Done-It: WILL YOU JUST GROW UP AND ATTACK ALREADY?!
Dr. Deep: I'm trying to be dramatic!
  • Hope Spot: After finally reaching the Devil's Lighthouse, Sonic is able to build up enough momentum and is almost about to teleport when the Chaos Council's mothership emerges from The Void right above him, causing him to crash into it and fall back down to earth.
Sonic: (sarcastically) Thanks for the heads-up, Shadow.
  • Hypocrite: Dread paints Sonic as a traitorous coward who abandoned them in pursuit of the Shard, in order to turn them against Sonic and get the Shard back. The moment he finally does get his hands on the Shard, he promptly abandons ship.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Sonic hopes to be a "blip on the horizon" before the pirates can catch up, but no sooner has he told Shadow so than Rusty Rose (standing with Dread and Black Rose on the Kraken's bridge) shines her laser-sight on him, thus preventing him from shaking his attackers.
Shadow: What was that about a "blip"?
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Faced with the choice between giving the shard to the Chaos Council or watching his friends die, Sonic seems to agree... then tosses the Shard off the Devil's Lighthouse, telling them to go fetch it themselves. They do, but it was worth a shot.
  • It's Probably Nothing: Mr. Dr. Eggman assumes that the mothership's engines were taken out by mundane collisions with debris, and repeatedly dismisses or ignores Dr. Don't's suggestions that something is purposefully targeting them.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Obsessed with the Prism shard, Dread refuses to let Sonic take it and lies to his crew that Sonic had abandoned them to turn the group against the hedgehog, just so he can reclaim it. The obsession is so bad, Dread leaves them and his world to get it back from the Chaos Council.
  • Mêlée à Trois: One breaks out between Sonic, Dread and his crew, and the Chaos Council. The Chaos Council win.
  • Mook Horror Show: Shadow starts taking out the Eggdrone work crews one by one, freaking out Dr. Don't.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Black Rose drops one during her heart-to-heart with Rusty Rose.
Rusty: No one has ever asked if I was "okay". I am to be treated as a tool, not a...
Black: Friend? I know the feeling. All I do is follow The Dread's orders and...where has that led me?
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: The Chaos Council have three of the Shards, and are on their way to New Yoke City to crush the resistance, but Sonic and Shadow (and Dread) have caught up to the mothership and are ready to try and stop them.
