Recap / Sonic Boom S 2 E 5 The Biggest Fan

Go To

After being pestered around, Sonic reluctantly lets Mark the Tapir, his self-proclaimed number one fan, become his personal assistant. However, his instincts cause him to go a little too far...

This episode provides examples of:

  • Everyone Can See It: When Amy, Tails and Knuckles meet Mark, they have some interesting comments on him... and each other.
Amy: (to Sonic) Your friend's a little... intense. It's clear he has an unhealthy attachment to you.
Tails: And you should know... (is met with a Death Glare and growl from Amy) ...because you took that psychology class.
  • Loony Fan: Having weaseled his way into a position as Sonic's assistant, Mark declares he wants to spend all his time with Sonic. Noting that he knows how to do that, he steers them into a boulder. In the next scene, when Sonic wakes up, he discovers that he's bound in a body cast in Mark's cabin, which is creepily decorated with several photos of him. Mark says that Sonic was injured in the crash (which he claims he had nothing to do with), and promises to nurse him back to health all while force-feeding him soup.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • During a montage of Mark doing things for Sonic, he paints a picture of him holding a chili dog... with tan arms.
Mark: It's almost done. I just need to finish the arms.
    • After capturing Sonic, Mark has him act out one of his Sonic fanfictions with him.
Mark: Let's do something family-friendly. Oh, not that one... definitely not that one...
    • In an attempt to escape, Sonic knocks over some of Mark's pictures of him. He frantically attempts to set them back up (which isn't easy in a full-body cast), but Mark notices one of them is out of alignment and puts two and two together; Sonic counters by saying he wanted to read through some more of Mark's fanfiction.
      Sonic: Ooh, SonAmy! Spicy!
Mark: Yeah, I don't really care for that, but it seems to be obligatory in the genre. Well, time for more pie! But since you've been naughty, you'll have to eat it off of one of my collectible plates.
Sonic: But... but collectible plates aren't food-safe! THEY AREN'T FOOD-SAFE!
    • Mark yells "Quiet, Tails!" on two occasions.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "We were in a terrible accident that wasn't intentional because it was an accident."
  • Wham Shot: When Tails, Knuckles and Amy go to Mark's house to look for Sonic, Mark claims that he's never heard of Sonic. As the rest of the team show their suspicions, he quickly proceeds to say that the blue hedgehog's muffled cry for help in the background is his "Sonic's-muffled-scream" oven timer. The rest of the team decide to sneak around another side of the house, but while doing so, Amy accidentally steps on a rope which sends a log swinging down from above - a Black Screen of Death quickly follows as it hits them.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To Misery; especially the second part of the episode when Mark has Sonic in a full-body cast in his shack and makes him act out Sonic fanfictions.
    • To drive the point home, the title is a reference to Misery as well.
