Recap / Solar Opposites S 2 E 2 The Earth Eraser

Go To

Korvo and Yumyulack get jealous when neighbors invite Terry, Jessie, and the Pupa to a dinner party, insisting they should tag along. When the night is a disaster, Korvo, and Yumyulack scheme to outlaw dinner parties and use governmental powers to eradicate them. In retaliation, Terry uses Schlorpian technology to hold parties under Korvo's nose or lack thereof.

Meanwhile, a newcomer is in the Wall and sees the reformations. Tim has used his revolution to provide everyone a Stepford Suburbia where no one goes hungry and they can pursue their dreams. There may be trouble in paradise, however, when a dead body shows up in the new park.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • The Big Damn Kiss: Korvo and Terry finally kiss in this episode after they reconcile.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Discussed whether or not Halk should get involved with investigating the murders. Halk knows that it's triggering his PTSD and he can feel it, which his fiancee mentions, and he's not qualified for the job technically. The thing is his conscience catches up to him, and he tells his fiancee that if there is a killer in the park, then someone needs to find them.
  • Closest Thing We Got: When the civilians call in Halk to look at the dead body in the park, he demurs about investigating by pointing out that he was a studio executive, not a professional detective. They point out that by default he's the closest thing to a detective.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: As Terry keeps telling Korvo with frustration, none of this would have happened if he hadn't insisted on tagging along to that pivotal dinner party. Korvo finally admits that he overreacted when he and Terry are hiding from Yumyulack's dogs.
    • He also would have resorted to the Napadoodles a lot sooner if he'd known the turning people into wine could be reversed...and wouldn't have drank any of it.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Terry is oddly introspective in this episode, and not afraid to call out Korvo for his bullshit. He says the reason why Korvo wasn't invited to the party is that he's a Drama Queen that can upset social situations easily, and is proven right. Terry also correctly points out that Korvo's anti-dinner party task force is doing overkill when people just want to have fun.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Korvo is fine with Police Brutality on people having dinner parties. He draws the line, however, at Yumyulack's hunting dogs turning dinner party guests into wine vintages, and runs to save Terry before he suffers the same fate.
  • Hero of Another Story: During Tim's revolution, Halk dug into Wonka Nerds rubble to pull out several people from being buried alive. He's famed in the neighborhood for his selfless actions.
  • Taught by Experience: Tim mentioned back in season one that Jessie only feeds them candy, and the lack of vegetables messes with your mind. We see here that one Wall member has figured out how to harvest seeds from KIND bars, and has plentiful yet tiny fruits and vegetables, delivered free of charge.
