Ex vs Ex.
With Scott Pilgrim apparently dead, Matthew Patel declares that the League of Evil Exes is due for a change in leadership. Meanwhile, Scott's friends (including a certain ex-girlfriend) gather for his funeral.
  • Adaptational Deviation: The plot is already going off the rails when Scott died last episode. While Ramona's dream hints that Scott isn't actually dead, the deviation is further cemented after a falling out within the League of Evil Exes.
  • As You Know: Lampshaded by Roxy when Todd brings up Envy being his girlfriend.
Roxie: We all know you're dating Envy Adams! Act like you've been here before!
  • Big "NO!": Knives' reaction at the start of the episode when she is informed by the janitor that Sex Bob-omb's bass player (Scott) was "punched to death."
  • Cruel Mercy: Having lost his entire fortune to Matthew, Gideon urges his opponent to finish him off, once and for all. Patel chooses to spare his life, because he wants Gideon to live with his misery.
  • Et Tu, Brute?:
    • Knives is quick to announce that Clash at Demonhead is her favorite band when Envy shows up. When Stephen reminds her that she called Sex Bob-omb her favorite last episode, she responds nonchalantly that Clash is her favorite real band.
    • Played for Laughs; Gideon dramatically asks "Et tu, Roxanne?" as Roxie leaves him behind. She responds by flipping him off.
      Roxie: Et tu? Eat me!
  • Evil Versus Evil: Matthew Patel vs. Gideon Graves, in a fight for complete control of the League, among other things. In the end, Matthew wins.
  • The "Fun" in "Funeral": From Envy breaking into a concert performance mid-service to the casket holding the coins that he left behind in the fight, Scott's funeral is completely played for comedy.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: The Evil Exes pledge their newfound loyalty to Matthew once he defeats Gideon in battle.
  • It's All About Me:
    • Envy Adams arrives at Scott's funeral to perform a song in tribute. She quickly turns the service into a full-on concert, and everyone (except Ramona) gets so hyped that they completely forget about Scott.
    • Gideon reveals that the League of Evil Exes exists so he can get Ramona if any of them defeat her new boyfriend. This, and the fact she doesn't return to Matthew or Gideon after Scott's death anyway, is enough for Matthew to attempt a takeover against their leader.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Matthew's "victory" over Scott ultimately amounts to nothing, since not only does Ramona refuse to get back with him, but there's no after-fight party as everyone just wanders off.
  • Not Quite Dead: Ramona dreams about Scott calling her name somewhere in the Subspace Highway. She wakes up and believes that Scott Pilgrim isn't as dead as she thought.
  • Off with His Head!: During the meeting of Evil Exes, Matthew punches Robot-01's head off because no "Plus One"s were invited.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Gideon didn't think Matthew, Evil Ex #1, would be strong enough to go toe-to-toe with him in a fight, even with his Demon Hipster Chicks as backup. He certainly didn't expect to lose to him either.
  • Villain Episode: The League of Evil Exes are at the forefront of this episode, with Matthew bringing them together so he could usurp Gideon's leadership.
  • Wham Episode: Matthew Patel battles Gideon Graves and wins, taking over the League of Evil Exes and all of Gideon's legal property.
  • Wham Line: The League discuss why they are meeting up at the moment. Gideon says he didn't invite them, but Matthew declares he did to discuss his battle with Scott and the League's future.
  • Wham Shot: Gideon and the rest of the Evil Exes receive a mysterious invitation to meet up, but Gideon himself is shocked about the location on the card.
Gideon: Did I just get invited to my own lair?
