Season 48, Episode 16: Quinta Brunson/Lil Yachty

Airdate: April 1, 2023

Sketches:

  • "Trump Indictment Cold Open": Donald Trump reacts to his indictment by promoting his new album.
  • "Drug Dealer": Two attendees are approached by multiple drug dealers hyping up how pure their cocaine is.
  • "Bridesmaid Cult Documentary": A group of bridesmaids talk about their experience as if it were a cult for a documentary.
  • "Couple Goals": Married couples are quizzed on how well they know each other.
  • "Traffic Altercation": Two drivers stuck in traffic begin antagonizing each other with exaggerated sign language.
  • "Midwife": An obstetrician and a midwife keep running into each other over the years.
  • "Bosses": A younger female employee keeps getting harassed by her bosses, but her coworkers don't see it.
  • "Please Don't Destroy: Street Eats": Three out-of-place white guys try to show the "real" New York on their food show.

Weekend Update covers Trump's indictment among other things. Features: Michael Longfellow as David, reacting to a teacher getting fired for showing the statue; Marcello Hernandez discusses the "short king" phenomenon. Lil Yachty performs the songs "the BLACK seminole" and "drive ME crazy!".

Tropes:

  • Almost Famous Name: One of the guys in "Street Eats" is named Domhnall Trump, and he immediately disclaims with "I know, I know...".
  • Bridezilla: Played With in "Bridesmaid Cult Documentary": The maid of honor is the one abusing the bridemaids with all these events, activities, and "200-question polls about customized shirts" but it appears to be all at the bride's behest.
  • Casting Gag: The sketch about workplace sexual harassment avoids pure skeeviness by casting actresses in drag as the dirty old bosses and non-cishet members of the cast as the oblivious male coworkers.
  • Gay Best Friend: Discussed, the cult expert interviewed in "Bridesmaid Cult Documentary" says bridal parties tend to include one outgoing gay man.
Josh: I've been a bridesmaid for 9 weddings this year. Whenever a girl calls me 'sis', I know I'm in trouble.
  • Height Angst: In his Weekend Update feature, Hernandez obviously has a complex about being 5'7", hating how tall men condescend and don't have to put in any effort while shorter men have to make themselves likable and interesting.
  • Here We Go Again!: For the entirety of "Bridesmaid Cult Documentary" the ex-bridesmaids look back on their experience with sadness and horror. At the very end, one of them reveals that she just got engaged, and promises to be such a chill bride...
  • Hitler Ate Sugar: Invoked during his Weekend Update feature: Hernandez hypes up short men by citing popular figures like Jack Black and Yoda. His examples of tall men? Bin Laden, Slenderman, and Armie Hammer.
  • It's Not Porn, It's Art: Invoked. David defends his nudity saying that it's art, and then takes it back, because a teacher who showed his students the statue was penalized for showing them "porn".
  • Monochrome Casting: Alluded to when one of the "Drug Dealer"s claims her cocaine is so white, it's like a Noah Baumbach movie.
  • Proud Beauty: David considers himself a "very pretty boy" and routinely invites the audience to look at his privates, which he's very proud of.
  • Punny Name: The game show host is named Bob Dabilda.
  • Waxing Lyrical: In the cold open, Trump says "It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me", a lyric from Taylor Swift's "Anti-Hero".
  • White Bunny: Alluded to when one of the titular "Drug Dealer"s claims his cocaine is so white, "it's like bunny rabbits making snow angels on a cloud".
