“Wait. Just who are you people? Are you our enemies? Or are you our friends? If you're Guardians, then please, join with us to stop those Daimons. We need you're help to keep those Daimons from taking Pure Hearts from the innocent. I am Sailor Moon! And with my new technique, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Crystal Clear Again")

To cheer up his girlfriend who's still despondent over her tragic de-transformation, Mamoru takes Usagi to an abandoned manor which was turned into a foster home for impressive, furry friends. But they'll have to act fast and call upon a greater power between them when a Jigsaw Daimon appears to target the young caretaker.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All Animals Are Dogs: The kitten that Mamoru holds up to Usagi licks her face like a puppy.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The kittens rush to save Miharu when she's targeted by the Daimon.
  • Cat Girl: The Jigsaw Daimon, Nekonneru, resembles a cat woman with purple skin.
  • Combination Attack: Mars and Jupiter combine Burning Mandala and Sparkling Wide Pressure to attack Nekonneru. But Nekonneru is too fearsome as she uses her tail to return the super-charged rings.
  • Continuity Nod: Usagi brings up the Animal Kingdom sanctuary to take care of the stray kitties.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Usagi could have saved her friends from guilt tripping them into adopting the strays if she remembered the Animal Kingdom sanctuary much sooner.
  • Cute Kitten: Mamoru tries to raise Usagi's spirits by taking to an unofficial cat sanctuary filled with tiny kittens.
  • Dub-Induced Plotline Change: In the Cloverway dub, Lita argues that she can't keep a cat because her mom is allergic to cats. In the original version, Makoto's parents are deceased.
  • Dub Name Change: The Spiral Moon Heart Rod is given the slightly different name of "Spiral Moon Heart Scepter" in the Cloverway dub.
  • Food Shove Gag: Ami shoves a sandwich into Luna's mouth to keep her from ranting at Usagi.
  • Healing Factor: Because Nekonneru was born from a puzzle, her body can regenerate anytime it sustains physical injuries, making her even more dangerous than Mikuuji.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Minako comments on how Artemis can be a handful to take care of while her white kitty is sitting on her lap annoyed by the accusation.
  • Instant Costume Change: Usagi and Mamoru briefly wear the outfits of their past incarnations while conjuring the Spiral Heart Moon Rod.
  • Mysterious Protector: Defied. The two strangers once again "destroy" the Daimon and return the Pure Heart after concluding that it doesn't contain a Talisman. Yet they refuse Venus' request to fight alongside them stating that they're only after the Talismans and have no interest in joining forces with the Inner Guardians.
  • Nebulous Evil Organisation: Tomoe namedrops the name of his organization as "Death Busters".
  • New Superpower: To go with her new transformation, Sailor Moon gets a new finishing move called Moon Spiral Heart Attack.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Usagi has a nightmare about the Silver Crystal losing it's power while her friends taunt her over her inability to transform.
  • Old, Dark House: The location of the day is an abandoned mansion. Unlike common examples, Mamoru and Usagi visit during the day and the inhabitants are a bunch of orphaned cats and a young girl who cares for them.
  • The Power of Love: By Usagi professing her love for Mamoru and her willingness to fight to protect him and her friends, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod is born.
  • Tail Slap: Nekonneru uses her tail to fight the Sailor Guardians and to deflect any attacks thrown at her.
  • Transformation Sequence: Usagi gains a new transformation sequence after reciting "Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up!".
  • Villain Opening Scene: Professor Tomoe starts the episode by asking Kaolinite what their objectives are along with their mode of operatis.
