Recap / Sailor Moon Crystal Ep 08 Minako Sailor V

Go To

The Sailor Senshi finally meet Sailor V/Venus, or Minako Aino. She explains that she is Princess Serenity, and that they must fight to stop the Earth from being completely destroyed, as the Moon Kingdom had fallen before. Soon after, Kunzite issues a threat to Sailor V, calling her to come to Tokyo Tower with the Legendary Silver Crystal, or he would completely destroy Tokyo. When she arrives at the Tokyo Tower, she is quickly overwhelmed, but is aided by the rest of the Senshi.

Tropes used in this episode:

  • Already Met Everyone: Sailor Venus and Artemis are more than familiar with everything that is connected to Sailor Moon. Minako is even familiar with Luna's secret control room. Justified as she secretly mentored the other senshi through the arcade game and used the control room during her Sailor V days.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as Venus had rescued the Sailor Senshi from Zoisite the previous episode, Sailors Moon, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter float up to where Venus is to aid her against Kunzite.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Usagi kisses Mamoru after saving her.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Averted. When Minako transforms into Sailor V, she does not shout "Venus Power Make Up". It's justified though: she's still posing as the Moon Princess.
  • It's All My Fault: Mamoru puts blame upon himself for not saving Sailor Moon, and nearly letting her get killed by Zoisite. In their next encounter, Mamoru is far too ashamed to look at Usagi.
  • I Work Alone: Minako, after graciously accepting the help of the other Senshi, turns around and states to Artemis that it's her duty alone to fight the Dark Kingdom. This does not occur in the manga, rather, in this she more closely resembles her characterization in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, which practically ran on this ideanote ; in the corresponding scenes of the aforementioned original manga, she had no problem with bringing the team with her to Tokyo Tower.
  • Ship Tease: Sailor Venus indicates that she remembers Kunzite from the Silver Millennium, mentioning "your true self" when she asks him to stop his attack on the people of Tokyo. Furthermore, Kunzite actually hesitates in response to her plea, until Beryl telepathically chastises him and orders him to finish the fight.
  • Stepford Smiler: It's made abundantly clear that Minako is stressed out by her self-imposed duty to defeat the Dark Kingdom alone. She greets the Senshi with a smile on her face, but when they part, the smile fades to reveal a grim-looking frown and she states to Artemis that she wouldn't get them involved in her battle against the Dark Kingdom.note
  • Taking the Bullet: Tuxedo Mask leaps into Kunzite's energy blast to shield Sailor Moon.
  • This Is Something She's Got to Do Herself: Upon hearing Kunzite's challenge, Minako decides to face him alone. It doesn't work.
  • You Are Not Alone: Moon, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter beg Venus to allow them to help her and to stop forcing herself to take on the Dark Kingdom alone.
