Recap / Sailor Moon Crystal Ep 07 Chiba Mamoru Tuxedo Mask

Go To

After the battle with Zoisite and Queen Beryl atop Tokyo Tower, Usagi finds herself in Mamoru's bedroom. Mamoru reveals his identity as Tuxedo Mask, as well as his motivations for hunting the Legendary Silver Crystal. However, Zoisite has hatched a new plan. He puts the entire town under a trance with one objective: Find Sailor Moon. It is a three way hustle over the Legendary Silver Crystal... or so Zoisite thinks.

Tropes used in this episode:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Sailor V and Artemis make their appearance on the scene saving Sailor Moon's life.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: So much so that, in the hunt for Sailor Moon, Tokyo goes into a small-scale riot.
  • Combat Pragmatist: After hatching a ploy that lured her out into the open due to her Chronic Hero Syndrome, Zoisite attacks Sailor Moon before she's finished her "In The Name of The Moon..." speech. Although she doesn't know where the Crystal is, she is also the main opponent to the Dark Kingdom and thus needs to be eliminated quickly. He would've killed her if Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Venus hadn't shown up.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: This time the battle between Zoisite and the Sailor Senshi is clearly in favor of the former, who quickly defeats the latter. Also, the battle between Zoisite and Tuxedo Mask is one-sided in favor of Zoisite, as well. And, finally, Zoisite is on the receiving end of this when Sailor V shows up.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: Part of Beryl's motive for plotting against Metalia, she doesn't want the Earth to be destroyed.
  • "Hey, You!" Haymaker: Tuxedo Mask delivers one to Zoisite to make the latter release his choke-hold on Sailor Moon.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • When Umino tells Usagi, Ami, and Makoto that he was going to catch Sailor Moon, he's blacked out into a silhouette, leaving only his eyes and mouth glowing yellow. This is much like how Professor Souichi Tomoe appeared in the third season of the first Sailor Moon series.
    • Zoisite trying to kill Sailor Moon with a large, sharp crystal resembles the events in episode 34 of the original anime.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Queen Beryl is convinced Metalia will destroy the Earth if she gets the Silver Crystal, which is line with her manga incarnation.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Again. In Act 7 of the manga, Zoisite is outright killed by Sailor V's attack. Here he survives her attacks, but he is seriously injured.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: Zoisite effectively uses this restraining technique on Sailor Moon after he had nearly strangled her. Justified since she can barely draw breath to talk.
  • The Starscream: Like in the manga, Queen Beryl clearly is planning keep the Silver Crystal to herself instead of offer it to her master, Queen Metalia.
  • You Fool!: Zoisite mocks Sailor Moon for actually showing up and purifying everyone when she was the target of them, not seeing the trap.
