Turtle-dega Nights: The Ballad of Rat Man

  • Actor Allusion: During his pep talk to Splinter, Donnie admits it would've been cooler if he were "a tiger or something". In the previous series, Splinter's voice actor voiced the tiger mutant bounty hunter Tigerclaw.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: While entering the Doom Dome, the group pass by a street fight, a non-anthropomorphic mutant rat, and an ice cream vendor. Donnie only acknowledges the last one.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Mikey and Donnie recognize a lot of the drivers at the derby. Then when Warren appears, they still don’t know who he is, much to his chagrin.
  • Brick Joke: At the start of the episode, Splinter dreams of Lou Jitsu winking at a Cat Girl in the audience. After winning the derby, he winks at the same (albeit now aged) cat girl. The first time, she faints; the second time, she has a heart attack.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Numerous supervillains happen to have entered the derby along with the turtles.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: A non-lethal example. Warren Stone's van is chopped in half by a saw while he's in the middle of boasting.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: While trying to butter up Mikey and Donnie, Splinter asks when the last time they did anything to gather was. Donnie checks his gizmos and says 278 days.
  • Skewed Priorities: Donnie and Splinter focus more on their family argument than the opponents that are about to gang up on them. Mikey tries to point this out, but is ignored.
  • Spider Tank: Donnie activates a function of the tank that makes it grows spider legs.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Donnie lays into Splinter for lying to them about the demolition derby.

The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek

  • Big "NO!": The turtles give one when they see their pizza has been stolen.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When the pizza is stolen, Mikey thinks the table ate it.
  • Epic Fail: The turtles suck at applying their master's lessons. It's only through Splinter's covert support that they aren't instantly caught by Gus the guard dog. Subverted later when they use what they've learned to take out Big Mama's goons and steal Gus's dog tag.
  • Face Palm: Splinter does this when the turtles initially fail to grasp any of his lessons.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: Splinter does this while watching the final battle of the episode. He peeks anyway.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: At one point, Splinter dresses up as one of the turtles. All of them are fooled by it.
  • Poor, Predictable Rock: Mikey apparently only uses scissors when playing rock-paper-scissors.
  • So Proud of You: Splinter says this to the turtles after they succeed in their mission. They're so happy that they give him a group hug.
  • Time-Passes Montage: Splinter stands on the rooftop for several days expecting his sons to be back soon. After a while, he gets worried and ventures into Big Mama’s hotel.
  • Wham Shot: Using Gus's dog tag, which is actually a key, Splinter retrieves an item from Big Mama's lair: A picture of Lou Jitsu and Big Mama together.
