Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 9 April Fools Drools Cable Rules

Go To

It’s April Fools Day, and Rick installs Interdimensional Cable for the Family’s bunker while they wait for the day to end. Meanwhile, some of the Loud siblings try to get Luan to stop her pranking, which she's planning on using for her plan to get back at Luna for her part in the Cronenberg Incident.

Rick & Morty episode: "Rixty Minutes"

Loud House episode: "April Fools Rules"

  • Adaptational Deviation: At the end of the chapter, Luan is forced to stop the April Fools pranks forever. That also means future episodes of The Loud House involving April Fools may not be adapted at all or happened before Rick's arrival, depending on the point of view, as the Loud House side of the story is out of order.
  • Adaptational Context Change: In The Loud House, whenever Luan pulls pranks on April Fools Day, she does out sense of fun (albeit a somewhat-twisted one). Here, not only does she do these pranks out of that, but her pranks are also motivated by revenge on Luna, and Rick to a lesser extent, for getting their former home dimension destroyed and costing her potential relationship with Benny.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Instead of being just a fun if over-the-top prankster, Luan is spiteful and acts more like a borderline super-villain.
  • Adapted Out: Many features of "Rixty Minutes" are cut out, including Summer's despair and Jerry and Beth's marriage issues, just to mix with "April Fools Rules". As a result, many of the original episode's themes of domestic familial issues aren't being tackled here, instead being more of a "stop the antagonist" episode.
  • Big "NO!": Luan lets out one of these when her plans to prank Sam ultimately fail.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: After Rick runs into the living room and sets off a trap that activates Rick's portal gun, Rick mutters a "Dang it" before falling through the portal.
  • Grew a Spine: After hours of cowering in the bunker and sitting through the child-unfriendly Interdimensional Cable, Lynn, Sr. and Rita finally decide enough's enough and put their foot down on Luan's pranks once and for all.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Luna volunteers to set off all of Luan's pranks before Sam comes over so she would both satisfy Luan's grudge and keep Sam prank-free. Thankfully, Lincoln, Lori, Lucy, and a reluctant Rick help her by setting off the pranks themselves while she waits for Sam.
  • I'll Kill You!: Rick, furious and stressed, shouts this at a sheepish Luan after being forcibly exiled and returning home via portal. Of course, by the next chapter, we all know that Rick isn't too psycho to do that. He was just too angry.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Rick repeatedly derides Lynn, Sr. and Rita for cowering from Luan rather than be parents and discipline her. Crosses over with Hypocrite Has a Point as he's not exactly a model parent himself.
  • Lampshade Hanging: In their (ultimately futile) attempts to find something kid-friendly on the Interdimensional Cable, Lynn, Sr. notes how all the commercials feel like they come from an adult comedy show.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Lisa can't make any sense about the inter-dimensional cable's content, gives up and slams her head in the wall.
  • You Are Grounded!: The Loud parents ground Luan for a whole month for terrorizing the family with her pranks, with repairs to the house being paid with her allowance.
