Mordecai gets jealous of Rigby when Rigby begins flirting with his crush, a red-breasted robin named Margaret.

"It's Time" contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Mordecai shoves Rigby off a speeding microwave while in a space vortex, after the latter kept taunting him and shoved him first. Getting shoved off the microwave ends up killing Rigby via gory disintegration, to Mordecai's horror.
  • Asshole Victim: Sure, Mordecai killing Rigby (albeit accidentally) was definitely overboard, but it's still rather hard to feel bad for Rigby, given he kept on being a total Jerkass towards Mordecai simply because the latter wants to spend time with Margaret rather than seeing a movie with him.
  • Back from the Dead: Rigby comes back to life after Father Time sends Mordecai back to where he started.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While Mordecai is relatively decent for the most part, he completely loses it when Rigby decides to take Margaret away from him out of spite and continuously rubs it in his face.
  • Body Horror: Rigby graphically disintegrates to his death after Mordecai shoves him off the microwave.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: On the one hand, Mordecai was right to call out Rigby for giving him such a hard time by playing with his insecurities. On the other hand, Rigby himself isn't wrong to point out that Mordecai should have simply admitted he was jealous from the get-go and was simping over someone he barely knows.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Rigby harassing Mordecai while they're both on the microwave ends badly for him, since Mordecai is shown to be much stronger than he is.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Mordecai doesn't take it well when Rigby arranges a date with Margaret. It doesn't help that Rigby kept being a jerk and taunting him over it for hours.
Rigby: I just wanted to see Zombie Dinner Party with my bro, who flaked on me for some girl who doesn't even know he exists!
    Mordecai: I'LL KILL YOU!!!
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: A quick pause at the microwave clock before Mordecai covers it with his hand shows the time at 7:58, which means that Rigby is two minutes from his deadline.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Rigby accuses Mordecai throughout the episode that he’s this, thinking that he’s jealous that he might be stealing Margaret away from Mordecai. Mordecai constantly denies this over and over. However, when Father Time shows him past memories of that day, Mordecai realizes that he is jealous.
  • Here We Go Again!: Narrowly averted. At the end of the episode, Rigby in the rewinded event notices that Mordecai looks jealous after he made Margaret laugh, just like in the beginning of the episode. Mordecai again says he’s not. He then realizes immediately that this could lead into a repeat of the microwave crisis, and then admits that he may be a little jealous.
  • I'll Kill You!: Mordecai exclaims "I'LL KILL YOU!" right before accidentally killing Rigby, and he regrets it right afterwards.
  • Jerkass Ball: Rigby is far nastier than usual, flirting with Margaret and asking her out for a date in front of Mordecai all because the latter refused see a zombie movie with him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Rigby may have been very on the nose and pushy about getting the point across that Mordecai is jealous that Rigby might take Margaret away from him. However, said point is completely right.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mordecai is visibly shocked and remorseful after accidentally killing Rigby by shoving him off the microwave.
Mordecai: (gasps in horror) RIGBY!!! No! That's not what I meant! That's not what I meant! (frantically presses the microwave) Go back! Go back, go back, go back!
  • Rage Breaking Point: Rigby telling Mordecai it's his own fault for blowing his chance with Margaret because he was too scared to talk, and then shoving him, is what causes Mordecai to finally lose it and shove him off the microwave into the space vortex.
  • Series Continuity Error: Throughout the episode, Rigby is planning to see a rather gruesome-looking horror film called Zombie Dinner Party 2, and actually seems to be excited about it. This is despite having been previously established as easily frightened by even the cheesiest of horror films. What makes this truly glaring is the fact that this character trait was established just one episode ago in both airing and production order.
  • Shout-Out: One of the scenes in the Zombie Dinner Party 2 trailer depicts a number of zombiefied arms bursting through a wall, referencing Day of the Dead (1985).
  • Take That!: Rigby takes a jab at poorly-written movies when he lambasts "Pajama Sisters 2", a movie Mordecai wanted to take Margaret to go see. Some comments on the film’s trailer also fit this trope.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Rigby continues to taunt Mordecai and shove him while they are in a vortex in space. Naturally, this gets him accidentally killed when Mordecai shoves him back in retaliation for the constant torment.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Mordecai goes through this in the space vortex.
  • You're Just Jealous: A rare accurate example. Throughout the episode, Rigby calls out Mordecai for being jealous of him several times. He's also completely right.
