Long Live the King

Tensions reach their boiling point among the Reds and Blues.

Tropes

  • The Bus Came Back: After being absent all season, Donut, Lopez (as a head) and Doc return.
  • The Day the Music Lied: When the Reds and Blues are about to fight, a gunshot rings out. Tex's theme begins to play... and then it turns out the shooter was Donut.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Sarge is told Simmons joined the Blues willingly, Simmons initially assures Sarge it isn't his fault but Grif's due to how disgusting he is. Grif argues that he has always been like that though and Sarge is the one who took half the base for himself and forced them together. Simmons sees his point and corrects himself.
Simmons: Oh. Then I guess it is your fault, sir.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Sarge initially attacks the Blues due to thinking they had betrayed them by kidnapping Simmons. But after he finally realizes Simmons joined them willingly to get away from Grif and his disgusting habits (and blaming Sarge for taking half the base to himself), he declares Simmons a "traitor" for deliberately joining "the enemy". Tucker calls him out on this.
Tucker: But if he wasn't kidnapped, that would mean we were never the enemy in the first place!
Sarge: Don't try to confuse me with your words, shamrock!
    Tucker: I'm Aqua!
  • Insistent Terminology: Tucker keeps insisting that his armor is Aqua, and gets angrier each time someone gets it wrong.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: How Wash assesses Donut's "help":
"So you're telling me... that you heard our distress signal... grabbed Doc... hopped on a ship... and then TOLD THE SHIP TO LEAVE? AND THAT'S YOUR IDEA OF SENDING HELP?!"
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Sarge shouts for everyone to kill Donut for foolishly stranding himself with them instead of rescuing them, even Caboose is seen joining everyone as they charge forward, implying even he is angry at Donut for his stupidity.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Caboose is made team leader of the Blues, Simmons wisely decides to go back to the Reds. Unfortunately, Caboose declares he can stay on Blue Team forever, and Freckles threatens Simmons that if he "deserts his post" he will be killed.
  • Wham Episode: As usual for the tenth episode of the season, this is a big one. Freckles declares Caboose the new leader of Blue Team after misunderstanding an argument between Wash and Tucker, Simmons is now actually being held by the Blues (or at least Freckles) against his will, and Donut, Doc and the original Lopez reunite with everyone as their "rescue team" but Donut foolishly told their pilot to leave, stranding them there as well. The final moments show the mysterious soldier from before again with him speaking for the first time.
  • Wham Shot: In the final moments of the episode, the mysterious soldier is seen watching over the canyon the Reds and Blues are in, and after commenting "Unfortunate," to himself, he turns invisible, showing he has cloaking technology, which was originally only seen used by members of Project Freelancer.

"So you're telling me..."

Upon releasing what Donut's rescue really is, Washington sums up just what he has done...before they all beat him up for his stupidity.

How well does it match the trope?
